TEAM LEAD CREDIT RISK REVIEW
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? This colleague is responsible for assisting in the management and direction of the daily activities of Credit Risk Review Officers in examining the Bank's diversified commercial and consumer loan portfolios for adherence to bank policies and regulatory standards.
This may include, but not limited to, personnel performance management, planning and scheduling, overseeing the timely completion of credit risk review examinations, Continuous Monitoring and portfolio Risk Assessments, preparing and / or reviewing final written reports outlining the results of the credit risk reviews, preparing various reports for the Board of Director's Risk Committee and Executive Management, analyzing new and pending laws / regulations that directly affect the industry and bank policies / standards and serving as a liaison between external auditors, bank examiners, and the Bank's lending areas.
Assumes the duties of Manager in the Manager's absence when needed.
What you will do
- Guides and assists the Credit Risk Review Officers in identifying, recommending and effecting process changes regarding credit risk management activities, regulatory statutes, credit policy and general credit underwriting guidelines to avoid potential issues or inaccurate risk ratings.
- Helps ensure qualified, well-trained, competent, and sufficient resources, with relevant skill sets are sought and retained to maintain an effective Credit Risk Review program and to meet scheduled / contingent work assignments.
- Develops and motivates team members, monitors team performance, gives on-going performance feedback and conducts effective performance appraisals.
- Trains, coaches, counsels and provides general direction and guidance to staff and identifies staff development needs and provides educational / training opportunities.
- Assists in the successful completion of Credit Risk Reviews Board-approved Plan by overseeing and managing workflow and priorities in conjunction with or in the absence of the Manager.
Determines and assigns Credit Risk Review Officers to team and work assignments based on experience, availability, and portfolio complexity and size.
- Recommends adjustments to the Credit Risk Review (CRR) Annual Plan to address changes in lending activities, credit risk profile, emerging risks, external environment changes or to conduct special reviews of significant events based on risk and financial importance.
- Develops and compiles reports for Board Committee(s), Executive Management, Internal & External Audit, Regulatory authorities and other stakeholders apprising them of Credit Risk Review's independent assessment of the Bank's credit risk management framework, sufficiency and soundness of the Bank's credit risk management practices, Issues that impact the adequacy of the control environment including accuracy of risk ratings, quality of the loan / lease portfolio, and significant top and emerging risks.
- Participates in the regular update of Credit Risk Review's Policy and Procedures, job aids, tools and processes to enhance the Department's effectiveness and to ensure they are sufficient and align with regulatory expectations.
- Provides effective challenge and quality control oversight on Credit Risk Review Officer Reports of Examination, Risk Assessments, line sheets (including proper grading, accrual status, monitoring and collection activities and acceptable credit standards are maintained and that loans conform to Bank policy) and other deliverables to ensure they are accurate, complete and support conclusions.
- Helps monitor and manage Credit Risk Review (CRR) activities to ensure sufficiency of portfolio coverage through CRR's Examination and Continuous Monitoring programs.
- May lead large, complex credit review examinations, prepares final reports and conducts meetings with 1st and 2nd line credit risk management personnel.
- Collaborates with colleagues across the 3 lines of defense to assess the effectiveness of key risk management strategies and address Issues and regulatory findings.
- Builds and maintains Credit Risk Review's communications with the Bank's lending Lines of Business (1st LOD), Credit Administration and Risk Management (2nd LOD) and Internal Audit (3rd LOD) regarding credit matters and offers guidance for areas that require further development.
- Offers effective challenge to 1st and 2nd line management in their development of management action plans to address identified Issues, and helps ensure timely, effective implementation of corrective actions.
- Attends various committee and divisional portfolio meetings to keep apprised of existing and emerging risks.
- Provides consulting, advisory services or carry out special tasks at the request of key stakeholders, which are consistent with our function to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management controls, oversight and governance processes.
- Stays apprised of regulatory guidance and industry changes to help ensure Credit Risk Review processes appropriately address new and emerging risks and changes impactful to the Bank's credit risk management and Credit Risk Review's practices.
- Complies fully with all Bank Operational and Credit policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements (e.g.
Bank Secrecy Act, Know Your Client, Community Reinvestment Act, Fair Lending Practices, Code of Conduct, etc.).
- Seeks out and attends sufficient training opportunities to enhance and maintain credit risk assessment skills, and management and supervisory skills.
- Responsible and accountable for appropriate quality controls related to the financial products the bank provides, the services the bank delivers, the processes employed and the incentives with which colleagues are awarded.

Must-Have*
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of credit examination, bank examiner or manager in credit (loan) risk review, credit administration or credit risk management in mid-size or larger ($50 billion or more) financial institution, regulatory agency or public accounting firm
- Minimum 5 years management experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience influencing senior level executives or regulators
Skills and Knowledge
- Prefer Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), RMA Credit Risk Certification (CRC) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- A thorough understanding of analyzing various types of credits.
- Must have proven management and supervisory skills and be able to lead, motivate and promote a client focused, consultative work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal / written communication skills and strong project management skills.
- Experience consulting with senior management on various credit-related issues.
- Thorough knowledge and operational skills in the use of personal computers and various software packages, including Excel and Word.
Compensation Starting base salary : $127,626 - $237,014 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
This job is eligible for bonus and / or commissions.
