Description :
Tutors assist students deepen their understanding of course content by clarifying and reviewing class material, helping students work on solutions to problems, discussing the text and other reading materials, or predicting and practicing potential test questions.
Tutors also help students to develop effective study skills and test-taking strategies. Tutors bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to learning.
Highest demand subjects include Math (Statistics, Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry); General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Economics, Accounting, and Physics.
Moderate demand subjects include Biology, Engineering, and Computer Science.
The Tutoring Center is located on campus in ELC 204.
Qualifications :
- Be a current SUU student.
- Have a 3.50 or better GPA (3.75+ preferred).
- Earned an A or A- in the courses tutored (test out / skip acceptable for some lower-level courses).
- Earned B or B+ may be acceptable for some courses with professor permission.
- Recommendation of at least 2 faculty members (provide names only, letters not necessary).
- Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment.
- Strong work ethic.
