Summary of Job Duties :
The Work-study Reading Tutor is responsible for providing reading intervention and mentorship to early elementary school students at select elementary schools.
Tutoring occurs three to five days per week.This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency / institution policy.
Qualifications :
Required Education and / or Experience :
- Must be enrolled at UA Little Rock
- Experience working with children
Preferred Education and / or Experience :
Experience teaching reading
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Participate in onboarding session and training sessions
- Conduct individualized 30-minute tutoring sessions for 4-6 students utilizing "Really Great Reading's" lessons
- Flexibility to schedule make-up sessions to accommodate student absences
- Log attendance and keep thorough session notes
- Administer student pre and post assessments
- Attend pre-employment information session to complete paperwork
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Must pass background checks, including child maltreatment
- Must have access to a personal laptop or tablet for use during tutoring sessions
- Must have access to reliable transportation (workstudy located off-campus)
- The ability to work 6-8 hours per week for 11 weeks, plus training and onboarding
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work well in a group setting
- Effective time management skills
- Responsiveness, open-mindedness, and self-confidence
- The ability to teach material in an easy-to-understand way
