Senior Accountant

Job Title : Senior Accountant Status : Full-time Exemption Status : Exempt Salary Grade : 28 ($27.00-&32.00 per hour) Department / Location : Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center / Tucson, AZ Primary Function : Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions for nine legal entities.

A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports.

The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work, Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received. (Eph. 4 : 1)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Perform in support of the Church and the diocese’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
• Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and shall govern his / her professional life in accordance with Catholic morals and principles.
• Reconciles bank and investment statements, balance sheet accounts and other revenue and expense accounts as necessary.
• Post all accounting transactions related to each legal entity including payroll and pension payments, benefits, contributions, and special billings.
• Oversee event management accounting.
• Performs month-end and year-end close process.
• Compiles monthly financial statements, Accounts Receivable reports and schedules of grants and endowments.
• Assist with annual audits by preparing workpapers and answering questions.
• Work with other managers and directors to review monthly financial reports.
• Help ensure that all internal controls policies are followed.
• Perform other tasks as directed by Controller or CFO.

Physical / Mental Requirements : Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.

Required Activities : Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and keyboarding. Basic Qualifications :

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Highly proficient with spreadsheet software.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Able to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
• Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.

Education and Experience :

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible financial experience.
