The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Business Operation Division, Logistics and Facilities Management Section is offering an opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-08 level to serve on a full-time, 120-day temporary promotion to the GS-09 level, OR a qualified individual at the GS-09 level to serve on a full-time, 120-day detail without promotion as an Inventory Management Specialist.

The Inventory Management Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Logistics and Facilities Management Section within the Business Operations Division.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following :
- Maintaining a daily inventory balance of all equipment, accessories, publications, forms and supplies stored at the various NLS warehouse locations, input receipt, requisition, issue and adjustment transactions in the automated inventory control system.
- Processing inventory updates for data received from multistate centers and producing the Comprehensive Inventory Report to distribute copies of the report to the sections responsible for placing orders.
- Preparing requisitions for items which the Inventory Management Section is responsible for ordering, and monitoring the status of orders to ensure that necessary actions are taken, staying abreast procurement and delivery actions.
- Maintaining physical inventories for forms, publications, supplies, playback machines and accessories stored in the NLS warehouses.
- Inputting inventory counts and related data in the automated inventory control system.
- Assist with recounts, processing adjustments and reviewing inventory statistics.
- Initiate actions to dispose of obsolete and unneeded items.
- Prepare and maintain records related to the general shipping and receiving activities of the section.
- May be required to assemble and package items required for NLS staff exhibits.
- Ensure that all exhibit materials, including photomurals, are shipped on a timely basis and inspected for damage when returned.
- Maintain stock levels of material in NLS warehouse inventory system by communicating with product owners.
- Update the inventory system as needed.
- Requesting quotes from vendors for materials or services needed by the Logistics Sections
- Preparing order package and tracking orders status.
- Track all FedEx and motor freight shipments through the FedEx and Priority 1 sites.

- Knowledge of federal government inventory management policies, procedures, and practices for establishing and operating an inventory management and control program
- Knowledge of LOC and / or NLS management of inventory, equipment and supplies, to include use of the records, forms and reports used in the management of NLS property
- Knowledge of automated inventory control system
- Ability to compute costs for inventory control programs, measure customer demands and support effectiveness, and maintaining minimum levels of inventory
- Knowledge of procedures for the receiving, inspection, storage, issue and physical inventory of supplies and equipment
- Knowledge of methods of maintaining time and attendance records in accordance with regulations

Eligibility : This opportunity is open to LC permanent staff who have permission from their supervisor .
Work Schedule : The work schedule is flextime, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. This position will be required to work onsite two days per pay period.
