Portland Community College is pleased to announce the recruitment of the Dean of Student Wellbeing, Engagement & Belonging position in the newly reorganized Division of Student Wellbeing, Engagement and Belonging (SWEB).

SWEB is the outcome of a merger between the former Division of Student Belonging & Wellbeing and the former Division of Student Life & Engagement.

The successful candidate will have the ability to create and impact deep change and operational excellence within the College and the Division.

Under the direction of the Executive Dean of Student Wellbeing, Engagement & Belonging, this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for providing leadership in the development, expansion, revision, improvement, and maintenance of multiple programs and departments.

In addition, this role responds to inquiries from College departments, educational institutions, the community, students, and / or external agencies and organizations and may supervise management, academic professionals, classified, technical / support, and student staff.

The Dean of Student Wellbeing, Engagement & Belonging will also serve as a member of the Executive Dean’s leadership team as well as the Vice President of Student Affairs’ College Student Affairs Leadership Team (C-SALT).

The Dean will supervise leadership of critical areas focused on student engagement and belonging, including Multicultural Services, Queer & Trans Student Success, Women’s Services, Veterans Services and Student Engagement.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.

Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Knowledge of Student Development theory, high-impact student engagement and retention practices, and Student Affairs structures and systems as demonstrated through program and initiative implementation and continuous improvement efforts, program outcome setting, review and evaluation experience, and professional development and service to the Student Affairs profession.
  • Experience overseeing and supporting identity based resource centers, programming and services and / or student engagement clubs and activities and / or college student union resources and services.

Demonstrated experience with Student Activity Fee (SAF) budgets and SAF funded programs and processes including budget review cycles, equitable allocation of resources and deep collaboration with students and staff throughout.

Evidence of visionary and collaborative leadership, clear communication skills, and organizational tools and strategies that emphasize their ability to manage their workload and to navigate change, ambiguity, and institutional barriers effectively.

Specific examples and experiences that show a commitment to enterprise wide data-driven decision making, made evident through the implementation of data and activity tracking systems and data review cycles that focus on the needs and desires of students.

Demonstrates an in-depth awareness and understanding of one’s own cultural background and privilege, how it influences perceptions, values, and practices and engages in the way they shape their relationship to students and staff.

With this, an ability to interrupt, disrupt and address conflict, prejudice, discrimination, microaggressions and racism that impacts students and staff at the interpersonal, intergroup, and institutional levels.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master’s Degree and eight years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program / project management and / or program / project coordination.
  • Four (4) years of higher education management / supervisor experience.

Position Grade

Starting Salary Expectations

Minimum $125,391.00 to range midpoint of $153,606.00 Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Position Grade Salary Range

$125391 to $181819 Annual Salary

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional business office environment on a PCC campus, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in work schedule.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time (sitting or standing);

communicate with employees, partners, and stakeholders; and operate a computer to develop work products, communicate, and carry out responsibilities.

Occasionally the employee is required to travel to other campuses to attend meetings, access items, and utilize equipment, and, rarely, move or transport items up to 10 pounds.

Ability to provide own transportation to and from campuses and / or offsite functions may be required.
