Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY : Staff Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRMS) is responsible for the development, implementation and ovsersight of daily recreational assessment and group programming of the Activities Therapy department.
TRMS will conduct evaluation, planning, treatment, patient / family education, adaptations, and recreation activities to individuals with decreased physical, emotional, cognitive or social capability due to neurological, orthopedic, psychosocial, cognitive, psychomotor or psychological dysfunction.
Therapeutic recreation services include but are not limited to leisure awareness / education / skilled development, self confidence, self esteem, socialization, community readjustment, relaxation, and perceptual motor.
Interventions provided by the TRMS are conducting in both individual and group settings. Some travel may be required in the provision of services between facilities and job functions.
TRMS will work with facility DCS to ensure appropriate staffing and utilization of program budget while meeting all core quality measures to maintain program fidelity requirements.

Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE : 1. Master’s in Recreation Therapy or related field required. 2. Must have and maintain Certificate of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (If not, required with 6 months of employment with STHS).
Alternatives to TRS cerficiation may be considered. 3. Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification at hire or within one year of employment, and must maintain certification thereafter.
4. 5 years clinical experience consisting of direct care in an acute care psychiatric stabilization facility preferred. 5.
Must have and maintain current BCLS certification, according to unit specific needs. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
