Metropolitan Industries, Inc. is a multiple market sales and service organization in the water & wastewater and Commercial plumbing & HVAC markets both locally and on a national basis.
For more than 50 years this company located in Romeoville, Illinois, has provided technical sales expertise, engineering, and end-user service to municipal and commercial customers in Illinois and has recently expanded customer base across the country.
The controls engineer will work with experienced engineers on the design of PLC based control systems for water and wastewater pumping applications, including SCADA Systems, Motor Control and Variable Frequency Drive applications for lift stations and water pressure booster systems.
The engineer must be able to read and understand specification and plan sets and produce project drawings.
Responsibilities and Duties :
- Create control schematics and panel layouts for PLC based control systems utilizing variable frequency drives.
- Create project submittal packages for approval by outside reviewing engineers and customers.
- Understand specifications, standards, and the National Electric Code.
- Communicate effectively with our sales department to collect all relevant information relating to specific job and designing the system.
- Analyze and interpret design drawings and specifications to develop accurate and timely electrical take-offs.
- Determine and design value-engineered prefab solutions according to plans and specifications.
- Provide complete project management that includes submittal package, control schematics, panel layouts for construction and generating itemized bill of material.
- Ensure that drawings comply with internal and customer drawing standards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
- Will be required to cross-train as back-up in other areas of the manufacturing plant.
- Required to have proper and accurate entry into the time and attendance system.
- Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
Qualifications and Required Skills :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technology or a minimum of four years related experience and / or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic understanding of National Electric Code.
- AutoCAD experience.
- Experience with variable frequency drives is a plus.
- Experience with Acumatica for Estimates, Inventory, and Bill of Material creation is a plus.
- Good mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Knowledge of basic electrical wiring a must.
- Exposure to ISA drawing standards a plus.
- Familiarity with pumps and pump systems a plus.
- Good written and oral communication skills required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Team player, flexible, self-motivated.
