Job Description : EdAdvance is preparing to expand our ACCCESS High School Program to include middle school students and we are seeking a qualified applicant to utilize their special education teaching certification to plan and provide core and elective instruction with students at the secondary level.
EdAdvance offers positions that provide freedom from many of the other time constraints and obstacles that can detract from the teaching profession.
Our schools are very well staffed with experienced administrative, related services, mental health, and behavioral professionals.
In addition, our enrollment processes allow us to align the needs of our students to our specific programs, staffing levels, and resources, creating low student-teacher ratios and small caseload sizes.
In short, our teachers spend more time doing what they know and love, teaching!
Major Responsibilities :
- Provide academic instruction and support for students who are enrolled in an outplacement educational program, serving students with social-emotional difficulties and communication and behavior challenges
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage and motivate students
- Utilize restorative practices to help students regulate their behavior, develop perspective-taking, and take personal responsibility for their actions
- Other duties as may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge of Special Education procedures and regulations
- At least 3 years of recent teaching experience at the secondary level, is preferred
- Familiarity in using CT-SEDS
- Experience in writing IEP goals, completing achievement evaluations and interpreting the results to propose services and instructional needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs
- Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required
Qualifications / Requirements :
- Active Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsement # : 065, 165 or 265)
- Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred
- Desire to work with students who struggle with regulating behavior and social emotional responses
Physical Requirements :
- Must be able to physically participate in student restraint and / or seclusion
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
