The Steps Middle and High School is a specialized educational day program serving special education students with behavioral challenges in grades 6-12.
The program is designed to replicate a typical high school experience while maintaining small class sizes and high staff to student ratio.
Steps students receive team-based behavioral and academic instruction from certified special education and content area teachers, school social workers, and registered behavior technicians.
All students enrolled in the program also participate in weekly individual counseling sessions, work towards successfully completing their post secondary and transitional goals / objectives with our school counselor and transition coordinator, and participate in a school-wide tiered behavioral support system that is monitored by Steps’ on-site Board Certified Behavior Analyst and is focused on three Core Values : Accountability, Belonging, and Perseverance.
Job Description : EdAdvance is seeking a qualified applicant to provide core and elective content to middle and high school Special Education students.
The qualified candidate will be professional, organized, and able to work independently.
Major Responsibilities :
- Design and deliver instruction tailored to the unique needs of Special Education students in an outplacement school.
- Collaborate with content teachers to provide academic and behavioral support for students.
- Develop updated IEP goals and objectives based on progress monitoring in order to partner and communicate with the sending districts during PPTs.
- Create a classroom culture that encourages Accountability, Belonging, and Perseverance.
- Conduct student assessments as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Thorough understanding of Special Education procedures and regulations.
- Understanding of, and ability to, work with students whose challenging behaviors stem from a wide range of disabilities and trauma.
- Utilize assessment data to plan a sequence and scope of teaching instruction appropriate for each student
- Navigating CT-SEDS
- Capable of evaluating and writing IEP goals, completing achievement evaluations, and interpreting testing data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs.
Qualifications / Requirements :
- Active or eligible for Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsements : #065; 165; 265).
- At least one year of current or recent teaching experience is preferred.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential requirement of this job.
Physical Requirements :
- Required to stand, bend, and kneel throughout the day.
- The ability to physically participate in student restraint and / or seclusion is required.
