The Medical Assistant Supervisor provides oversight and works alongside the Medical Assistants in the Acute Care, Primary Care, and Women and Gender Care clinical areas.

The position collaborates with the Nurse Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Medical Directors and CSU Health Network providers, nurses, and other staff to oversee the provision of excellent, safe and evidence-based, and efficient health care to CSU students.

The Medical Assistant Supervisor responsibilities include : Hiring; training and evaluating competency of Medical Assistants;

scheduling (including approving leave requests and work hours); evaluating job performance; leadership role in creating and implementing policy and procedures, as requested by the Nurse Manager and Nurse Supervisor.

The position may provide direct patient care as needed to manage patient workflow and must remain current with issues affecting Medical Assistants in clinical areas.

The Medical Assistant Supervisor reports directly to the Nurse Manager. Required Job Qualifications Education / Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Diploma from a Medical Assistant training program
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be valid, current and in good standing
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS), valid and current, or the ability to obtain prior to start date

Experience

  • Two years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience as a Work Lead or Supervisor in a healthcare setting

Preferred Job Qualifications Education

Bachelors degree in healthcare or related field

Experience

  • One year of work lead or supervisory experience
  • More than two years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Experience working in an outpatient care setting
  • Experience working in a college health setting
  • Experience working with a college age / young adult population
  • Experience scheduling, hiring, and training medical support staff
  • Experience caring for diverse populations, including diverse religious / spiritual beliefs; racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds;

and diverse sexual orientations and gender identities

Experience using common office computer applications, such as Excel

Essential Duties Job Duty Category Supervision and Leadership Duty / Responsibility

  • Works with Nurse Manager and Nurse Supervisor to hire Medical Assistant staff, with final input in the hiring process at all stages
  • Creates and implements training program for newly hired Medical Assistant staff
  • Assists Nurse Manager in creating and establishing work standards for Medical Assistant staff, including expectations for professional behaviors
  • Provides supervisory decisions pertaining to the Medical Assistant staff, including annual performance reviews, corrective and disciplinary action, and merit-based salary recommendations
  • Evaluates Medical Assistant staff skills and clinical competencies on an ongoing basis and provides corrective measures where deficiencies are noted
  • Delegates tasks to Medical Assistant staff to ensure prompt and thorough attention to immediate patient needs
  • Serves as a liaison between other health center staff and providers to prioritize messages and relay to providers in a timely manner
  • Manages processes for handling dirty and clean supplies for the entire clinic, including training staff and identifying and addressing areas for improvement
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of position processes and programs

Percentage Of Time 50% Job Duty Category Administration Duty / Responsibility

  • Assists Nurse Manager and Nurse Supervisor with creating and maintaining staff schedules
  • Assists Medical Director with managing provider staff schedules in the electronic health record
  • Maintains prescriptions and other paperwork for patients to pick up
  • Supports Travel Medicine Team with questions from students and Health Network staff pertaining to pre-travel consultations for international travel and education abroad

Percentage Of Time 30% Job Duty Category Direct Patient Care Duty / Responsibility

  • Provides direct patient care as a Medical Assistant as needed to manage patient work flow
  • Fills in for staff absences as needed for critical shortages
