Salary Range : $56,455.00 - $78,630.00 GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under limited supervision, manages operations of the Richland One Theatre facilities. Oversees theatre and equipment maintenance and assists and provides technical support to users of the theatre.

Supervises technical employees; reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy. Reports to Director of Facility Services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Manages the operations of the district theatre facilities in all middle and high schools, including building maintenance, equipment acquisition and maintenance, budget administration, personnel, training users, advising and providing support with planning, design and operations.

  • Supervises assigned technical personnel; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work;
  • maintaining standards and safety, coordinating activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee problems; selecting new employees;
  • and recommending the transfer, promotion, discipline and discharge of employees as appropriate. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy;

evaluates and makes recommendations; offers advice and assistance as needed.

Provides ongoing training for school-based schedulers and school-based production managers.

Corresponds with theatre users, internal and external to the district, ensuring their understanding of theatre policies and procedures.

Advises and assists users with technical requirements. Designs and executes lighting, sound, and designs and constructs scenery and sets for performances.

Designs and executes technical aspects for district events in collaboration with other departments such as Communications, the Center for Educator Quality, ITS, IT, Facilities, Maintenance, etc.

Acquires equipment and supplies for theatre operations; maintains and repairs equipment as necessary.

Advises and assists district groups on theatrical purchases, including theatre construction specifications.

Ensures adequate maintenance of facility; maintains and improves safety, fire and other standards as necessary.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of theatre expenditures, usage, and other administrative data.

Receives, reviews, prepares and / or submits various records and reports including requisitions, purchase orders, insurance forms, asset inventory lists, checks, contracts, maintenance request forms, schedules, programming analyses, personnel evaluations, job applications, construction diagrams, time sheets, technical agreements, financial reports, budget documents, memos, correspondence, etc.

Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, calculator, sound and lighting system equipment, audio-visual equipment, welding instruments, hand and power tools, carpentry tools, electrician's tools, soldering tools, drafting instruments, and applicable applications and software.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, district administrators, subordinates, volunteers, visual and performing arts teachers, principals, school-based schedulers and Production Managers, other district personnel, students, parents, artists, performers, professional peers, community organizations, sales representatives and the general public.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Defines district standards of operations and procedures through development and revision of manuals for users.

Maintains cleanliness standards in facility.

Performs various facility repairs, including basic mechanical, electrical, carpentry and electronic repairs, and painting.

Performs routine clerical duties, including but not limited to answering the telephone, correspondence, copying and filing documents, etc.

Operates sound and light boards as needed.

Assembles / disassembles technical equipment for events as needed.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires Bachelor's degree in theatre management, technical theatre, media arts or other relevant field supplemented by three to five years in technical direction of a theatre, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements : Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, telephone, basic office equipment, sound / light / visual equipment, hand and power tools.

Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; work involves walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, etc.

Must be able to lift and / or carry weights of up to fifty pounds and climb a ladder.

Data Conception : Requires the ability to compare and / or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communications : Requires the ability of speaking and / or signaling people to convey or exchange information.

Includes giving assignments and / or direction to subordinates and colleagues and receiving assignments and / or direction from supervisor.

Language Ability : Requires ability to read a variety of policies and procedures, technical diagrams, technical manuals, equipment specifications, schedules, contracts, etc.

Requires the ability to prepare contracts, financial reports, routine reports, schedules, correspondence, etc. with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.

Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence : Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions;

to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in oral, written, mathematical or schedule form; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Requires the ability to apply influence systems in providing staff leadership; to learn and understand complex principles and techniques;

to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and to understand and implement specialized machinery functions.

to counsel and teach employees and colleagues. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds and using complex technical language.

Numerical Aptitude : Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time.

Must be able to use practical applications of trigonometry, statistics, geometry.

Form / Spatial Aptitude : Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape; identify and create harmonious, creative or contrasting combinations as in art, shape and form;

and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination : Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office and electronic machinery.

Manual Dexterity : Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, theatre equipment, hand and power tools, etc.

Must have moderate levels of eye / hand / foot coordination.

Color Discrimination : Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament : Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.

Worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Physical Communications : Requires the ability to talk and / or hear : (talking : expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words;

hearing : perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Knowledge of Job : Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of district as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Theatre Services Manager.

Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

Is able to help ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the theatre through effective supervision.

Has considerable knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of Richland District One and other governmental agencies.

Knows how to plan, organize and direct a technical staff. Knows how to apply supervisory and managerial concepts and principles.

Has considerable knowledge of and skill in operating and maintaining theatre equipment, including sound, lighting and visual projection equipment.

Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Is able to read and interpret specifications, technical diagrams, contracts, budget documents, and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.

Knows how to prepare reports, financial reports, program reports, schedules, contracts, correspondence, etc. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various technical and professional languages used within the department.

Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation.

Staffing : Works with the Human Resources Department and upper management, where appropriate, to select and recommend employment of personnel for the department who are qualified both technically and philosophically to meet the needs of the department and the district.
