DEPARTMENT : Leadership

POSITION SUMMARY : United Caring Services is a low-barrier shelter in downtown Evansville, serving the most vulnerable members of our community.

There are seven (7) programs, including Day Shelter, Men's Night Shelter, Women's Night Shelter, Medical Respite, Red (high temperatures) / White Flag (freezing temperatures), Apartments, and the Diversion Center.

The Director of Programs is responsible for leading, managing, evaluating, and improving the organization's programs and team.

This position achieves success by acting as a champion for the organization's culture and values. The Director of Programs recruits, coaches, and develops a high-caliber UCS team to strengthen our Community of Caring.

Additionally, this position, in collaboration with the Executive Director, executes program evaluation and reporting. The Director of Programs assists the Executive Director in capturing data to share with the board of directors via the monthly executive report.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

People and Culture

  • Implements strategies for effective recruiting, hiring, training, and integrating of staff / volunteers
  • Guides staff, organizes trainings, manages performance reviews, assists with goal development, and manages conflict resolution
  • Oversees human resource functions; manages staff and volunteer schedules, receives and monitors PTO, maintains confidential personnel files
  • Prepares job postings, screens applicants, conducts interviews, and coordinates background checks
  • Implements and ensures personnel, program, safety and security policies and practices comply with applicable laws and grant requirements

Program Administration

  • Ensures program consistency and compliance with organizational goals and objectives as well as other industry "best practices"
  • Ensures accurate data collection, tracking, and reporting of program performance measures required for shelter compliance
  • Addresses guests' needs, feedback, grievances, and service suspensions
  • Collaborates and connects with other local social services agencies
  • Adheres to the high confidentiality standards which are mandated by the organization and by federal and state laws
  • Serves as a member on committees as well as other relevant stakeholder groups

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Willingness to embrace and embody the UCS Mission, Vision and Core Values
  • Self-motivated with good organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Analytical and financial skills to assure data entered timely and budget followed
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and documentation with strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Proficient in online calendar scheduling and email, MS Office, Google Docs in addition to ability to learn Contact Management software
  • Knowledge and understanding of HR regulatory guidelines, Federal and State regulations, including FLSA, ADA, HIPPA. and EEO, preferred
  • Required to sit, stand, crouch, and navigate multiple floors with an ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted (50 lbs. assisted)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in public administration, management. human resources, social work, or other related fields
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a supervisory or managerial role with proven excellence in administration, communication, and team building.
  • Preference given to applicants with previous experience working in a nonprofit. homeless service, substance abuse treatment, or similar setting.
  • Possess a knowledge base of local homeless services, mental health and substance use resources, resource navigation, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and problem-solving approaches preferred.
  • Current valid state driver's license.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, CPR and first aid certification

Job Type : Full-time

Pay : $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
