Job Summary
The Process Engineer’s primary role is to design, integrate, or improve fiber optic cable manufacturing systems or related processes.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate current or proposed manufacturing processes or practices for environmental sustainability, considering factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, water pollution, energy use, or waste creation.
- Develops and implements processes for fiber optic cable products in conjunction with new product development, new equipment, cost reduction and continuous improvement activities, and manufacturing support.
- Directs and coordinates installation of new equipment as well as develops and executes qualification plans for new equipment.
- Plans and develops experimental test programs as required for continuous improvement activities, new product development, manufacturing improvements.
- Analyzes test data and reports to determine if process parameters are adequate to ensure that products meet functional and performance specifications.
- Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares process design modifications, improvements, as required.
May also use and develop computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.
- Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
- Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
- Incorporate new manufacturing methods or processes to improve existing operations.
- Determine root causes of failures or recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods, using statistical procedures.
- Prepare reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
- Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
- Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
- Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in fiber optic cable or extruding type process engineering position required.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel and Project required.
- Experience in applied statistical principles, software programming and tools, product development processes, verification, and validation techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, skill set including : six sigma process improvement, value-stream mapping, DOE, 8D problem solving, PPAP, SMED, strongly preferred.
