TRUCK DRIVER TRAINEE

A teammate in this position learns the essential functions ofthe Driver job including the accurate and timely distribution ofproducts to various customer locations.

The Driver Trainee gainsexposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part ofthe developmental process of becoming a McLaneDriver.

ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS :

A teammate in this job willtrain side-by-side with a Driver Trainer to acquire the skillsnecessary to perform the followingfunctions :

• Maneuver tractor intoposition to attach trailer and handle lines tosecure.
• Operates truck in a safe manner incompliance with all local, state, and federal regulations andcompany policies.
• Inspect tractor-trailerequipment for defects pre / post trip and submit DOT inspectionreport indicating condition.
• Operates DriverDelivery Handheld (DDH), document delivery receipts / producttemperatures and exceptions. Inspects trailer to ensure product issecure for undamaged transport ofproduct.
• Rides and trains with Driver Trainerof tractor-trailer to various destinations, gaining knowledge ofcommercial driving regulations and observing the Driver's skill instarting engine properly, approaching intersections, making turns,backing, parking, and maneuvering vehicle on the road and oncustomer premises.
• Maintain driver log (Manualor PeopleNet) according to DOT regulations, documenting deliveryreceipt, product temperatures andexceptions.
• Assists the Driver in unloadingtrailer and delivering product into customerpremises.

MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS :

A teammate in thisposition must :

• High School Diploma orGED preferred.
• Be at least 21 years ofage.
• Meet eligibility requirements in theMcLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
• Completetraining and receive Class A CDL in 6 months orless.
• Ability and willingness toselect / load / unload and / or deliver ALL products that may be orderedby McLane customers.
• Stand, walk, sit, climb,reach, bend, squat, and stoop to accomplish the essential jobfunctions.
• Read and comprehend labels,instructions, and bills of lading.
• Performmathematical calculations to verify quantities ofproduct.
• Communicate with customers,management, and other teammates.
• Safely drive atractor-trailer, use a 2-wheeled dolly, ramp, and on boardPeopleNetdevices.

WORKINGCONDITIONS :

• Theenvironment encompasses all areas of a distribution center,transportation department, shop and customerfacilities.
• Working conditions could containmoderate noise, vibration of vehicle and extreme weather conditionsdepending on climate.
• Regular and frequenttravel, including overnight.
