SENIOR LAB HELPER

The Senior Lab Helper is responsible for specimen receiving and handling, automation sample input / output, exception handling, and distributing samples to workbenches and other departments as needed.

This role is also expected to assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of the laboratory automation track. The lab helper is also expected to be knowledgeable of specimen processing instructions.

The Senior Lab Helper will be able to recognize issues and problems and address them as appropriate as well as assist in the training of others.

Responsibilities :

• Sample preparation and handling to include, but not limited to; sample retrieval, centrifugation, aliquoting, add ons, delivery and pick-up to appropriate areas, packaging / manifesting to reference laboratories
• Place specimens on the automation line and handling input / out specimen exceptions
• Assist with track maintenance, troubleshooting and repair as well as escalating any track concerns (i.e., calling service)
• Communicate any issues with mechanics, supervisors, and technologists
• Inventory management including monitoring of stock levels. Ensure parts / consumables are well stocked to keep track functioning
• Keep a clean and well-organized work area
• Conform to all infection control procedures
• Report and handle basic facility issues with appropriate departments : electrical, plumbing, safety, etc.
• Responsible for training other staff
• Performs other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications :

• High School Diploma / GED required
• Knowledge of operation of laboratory centrifuges, instruments, automated track, etc.
• Possess knowledge of good laboratory practices, including QA / QC concepts and practices are required
• Must be literate with computers, printers, pneumatic tubes, and office equipment
• Must gave excellent communicational and organizational skills

This position is located in Blood Bank at the Moses campus. The hours are 8 : 00 am 4 : 30 pm with alternate weekends.
