Job Summary
A pharmacist provides patient care through the provision of direct operational and / or clinical patient services. They ensure the safe and appropriate use of medications through the provision of drug information, drug therapy monitoring, distributive and supervisory pharmacy services within the framework of pharmacy departmental policy, standard practices and state / federal laws.
They must also meet departmental staff development requirements. A pharmacist may participate in departmental or health system committees and the provision of education.
This position will require pharmacists to work all shifts within the department (first, second, third, weekends) as well as holidays.
The amount of time allocated to operations and clinical services will depend upon staffing and overall pharmacy workload.
Accountabilities
Provides accurate medication order-entry, drug distribution, drug administration, diagnostic testing and patient care.
Confirms the appropriateness of drug therapy as it relates to the care of specific, specialized patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Seeks to minimize turn-around-time for products and services. - 40%
- Provides concise, applicable, timely responses to requests for drug information. - 15%
- Supervises pharmacy support personnel; checks and verifies the accuracy of all tasks performed.May also function as lead or charge pharmacist within the department to monitor workload and workflow. - 20%
- Completes pharmacy consults and provides clinical services, with appropriate documentation, via the department's clinical initiatives. - 10%
- Provides experiential education training for pharmacy technician, students, and new team members. - 5%
- Acts as liaison between pharmacy and assigned patient care area solving distribution problems and monitoring drug supplies for proper storage, etc. - 10%
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors Degree - Graduation from an ACPE-approved college of pharmacy, PharmD preferred
- No previous experience required - prefer department-specific pharmacy experience
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Licensed as Pharmacist in South Carolina or eligible to become licensed in South Carolina within 3 months of hire date
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology; possess good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills. - Required

- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with subordinates, peers, supervisors and others outside the department. - Required
- Problem solving abilities; able to work in team situations; handle urgent, stressful conditions. - Required
