Job Summary :
- Under the supervision of the Director, Security and Public Safety and working leadership of the Lead Public Safety Officer, monitors the safety and security conditions of the Lutheran Hospital Campus.
- Responds to and documents situations that threaten the safety and security of the facility's grounds and occupants.
Registration / Certification / Licensure :
- CPR within 90 days of date in position
- Current Driver's License which meets corporate insurable guidelines relating to the driving of hospital vehicles.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 Days of date in position.
- ASP Tactical baton, flashlight and handcuff within 6 months of hire.
- IAHSS Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months of hire.
- AXON Taser CEW certification within 6 months of hire. Batons, handcuffs and tasers will not be issued to officers prior to successful completion of certification courses.
Experience :
One year security or emergency / first responder related experience required.
Education :
Minimum of a High School graduate or GED
Essential Job Responsibilities :
- Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating environment of care safety hazards.
- Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property to include inside areas as well as all parking lots and garages.
- Enforces hospital policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, and tobacco free / smoking policy.
- Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require security involvement.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and / or staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Advises supervisor of any and all duties performed. Completes appropriate documentation of various incidents.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
- Responds to emergency situations and hospital alarms as designated.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
Maintains applicable certification / licensure. Completion of IAHSS Basic Training Module within 6 months post new hire.
- Remains on assigned post and completes all post specific duties. Ensures that post and hospital vehicles remains clean, neat and free of all non-work related material.
- Follows organizational hospital policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
- Maintains and presents himself / herself in a professional manner at all times when on duty.
Job Knowledge and Skills :
- Requires basic knowledge of safety and security codes, procedures, equipment, and regulations applicable to an environment of care.
- Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills for the identification and enforcement of safety and security regulations in order to prevent unsafe conditions for patients, visitors and staff.
- Requires writing and organizational skills in order to reflect accurate and complete investigative information on incident reporting as required.
- Requires group cohesion and communication skills promoting teamwork and group achievement.
- Demonstrates well-developed communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
