We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Tooling Engineering Manager to join our client’s growing team ASAP in Clinton Township, MI!!!
What you will be doing :
- Oversee, track, and coordinate the tool design and build portion of the program launch process for new builds, engineering changes, repair jobs, and customer transfer molds.
- Quote cost and lead-time for new tooling and engineering changes to existing tools, repair jobs, and customer transfer molds.
- Concept new mold layouts, construction techniques, and mold specifications.
- Identify part design flaws, provide alternative options for part manufacturability and ease of manufacturing improvements, and provide feedback to customers.
- Identify target dates for design, first shot, and debug stages of tool build and qualification.
- Coordinate and guide designers during design phase of new tool builds or engineering changes, repair jobs, and customer transfer molds.
- Hold design review meetings with designers, tool room, manufacturing, and mold repair to optimize tool construction in the interest of all parties.
- Identify any portion of tool builds that will be contracted on the outside.
- Compile quotations, finalize quotations and recommend / choose an outside vendor.
- Ability to troubleshoot molds and determine proper course of action required for permanent corrections.
- Purchase and monitor progress of any sub-contracted tool components.
- Schedule press time and coordinate all tool samplings (tool not yet production approved.)
- Guide tool sampling and participate in determining best molding process for tool.
- Coordinate with Quality Control Department for Inspection layouts, Cap. Studies, and geometry maps of samples.
- Identify all part features that are not to print specification and determine corrective action that is required.
- Guide designers and mold makers through corrective action (debug) phase or phases of the build.
- Coordinate with Quality Control Department for PPAP submission.
- Specify molding process for Production.
- Initiate the sign off of a tool to go into production.
- Generate financial reports on tool builds.
What we need from you :
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and / or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- GD&T knowledge; blueprint reading; familiarity with core automotive tools : APQP, PPAP, FME
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Use of industry CAD software programs such as Unigraphics, Mastercam, Auto-CAD, Pro-E, Catia Software; ability to learn new software as needed.
