Job Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1) Basic functions and responsibilities a) To prevent athletic injuries b) To evaluate, screen, and treat athletic-related injuries and illnesses c) To provide emergency medical care and to relieve student-athlete discomfort d) To restore function through therapeutic interventions and rehabilitative exercises as prescribed by a team physician 2) Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities a) Provide evidence based patient care b) Assist in the coordination of pre-season physical exams for all ISU intercollegiate athletes c) Apply taping, bandaging, and other devices for injury prevention and protection d) Provide care to patients under the supervision of licensed team physicians and medical consultants e) Perform injury assessment and screen injuries for referral to physician f) Administer first aid and emergency care to injured student-athletes g) Administer therapeutic interventions for injury treatment h) Facilitate rehabilitative exercises to enhance range-of-motion, strength, and function i) Assist in the coordination of medical coverage of athletic events and practices 3) Athletic Training Administration a) Serve as liaison in the care and well-being of student-athletes b) Communicate with coaches pertaining to student-athletes’ status of injury and recommendations for return to participation c) Refer to physicians and consultants for athletic related injuries and illnesses d) Inform student-athletes’ parents of student-athlete related health concerns (with permission and as appropriate) e) Facilitate communication with athletic administration regarding issues of insurance, medical eligibility, etc.
f) Maintain accurate records i) Individual student-athlete medical files ii) Health history questionnaires and physical exam forms iii) Daily injury reports and progress notes g) Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor 4) Professionalism a) Maintain BOC certification through continuing education units (CEUs) b) Maintain IN licensure through continuing education units c) Follow the NATA Code of Ethics d) Adhere to the ISU Graduate Assistant Retention Policy.
