The Process Engineer is responsible for evaluating existing operations and configuring manufacturing systems to optimize processes, reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process.
Areas of focus in this role include overseeing process control & automation of raw material offloading / storage, batching, purified / RO water generation, CIP processes, and all fluid transfer operations.
The Process Engineer plans and directs employees and / or contractors within both internal initiatives and capital projects.
The Process Engineer understands and implements company and customer protocols and procedures in accordance with cGMP, FDA, and other applicable regulations.
Primary Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
- Drives continuous improvements throughout all areas of the organization.
- Supports the manufacturing operations by troubleshooting mechanical / electrical / control systems.
- Develops and implements automated processes and system improvements in accordance with company objectives.
- Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and change overs.
- Partner with R&D to derive, test, pilot, and implement batching improvements related to formulation & manufacturing instructions
- Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex designs, product construction and testing to ensure completion of projects as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- End-to-end Project Management, from concept / costing through completion, with a focus on delivering scope, budget, and timing.
- Develops relationships with a variety of outside contractors to ensure multiple reliable quotes can be obtained for each new project.
Education & Experience :
- Bachelor of Engineering / Science degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a production environment (preferably FDA regulated) with PLC and automated electrical control systems.
- Experience with high purity water systems & clean-in-place is strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures
- Capable of performing engineering calculations to include material / energy balances, heat transfer, and pump / line / relief valve sizing
- Experience developing / reading / updating process flow diagrams and P&IDs
- Understanding of Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC Controls, Factory Talk Historian, and / or other related control systems.
- Hands-on CAD and general computer skills
- Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods.
- Detail oriented.
- Project management experience.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Strong problem solving, analytical methods and technical skills.
- Good understanding of FDA Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations (GMP’s) and OSHA safety requirements.
- Self-starter with strong work ethic.
- Strong communication (both written and oral), interpersonal, team building and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and manage time efficiently and effectively.
Minimum Requirements :
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Able to work overtime & weekends as required.
- Wear hairnet, safety glasses, long pants, steel toe shoes / boots and any other uniform standards.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Sit, bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time in one place.
- Lift items up to 50lbs
