Job Title : Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Summary : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is supervised by the Medical Director and works closely with that person to ensure that the medical services provided to our clientele meet the standards of the agency.
The PMHNP will work within the Medical and Clinical departments; some amount of administrative supervision is also assumed by the Clinical Director of the respective work-site.
Responsibilities and Duties : Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains Nursing objectives and high standards for the facility through policies and procedures, inspections, education, and appropriate supervision of patient care rendered.
- Completes initial psychiatric evaluations for clients that have been referred to and accepted into Psynergy Programs, Inc.
This evaluation shall consist of a history of presenting circumstances, current medications, pertinent medical and psychiatric history and diagnosis.
- Works in conjunction with the Medical Director or a physician designee to develop the most appropriate medication regimen given the client's history and presenting symptoms.
- Works closely with the client and program staff to help medication adherence through client staff education, one-to-one and / or group interventions with the client and monitoring the medication procedures in place at the respective program.
- As needed provides consultation with the residential and clinical departments in regards to clinical situations that are occurring within individual programs.
- Communicates and works with other community-based physicians as determined by the agency.
- May conduct agency-wide training on various topics related to the provision of Medical and Psychiatric services to our target population.
- On-Call accessibility as arranged by the Medical Director
- Performs all initial physical exams, urgent, primary and psychiatric care for all clients.
- Participates in staff program and facility training as necessary.
- Performs emergency first aid and CPR in emergency situations as needed.
- Participates in emergency drills and follows emergency procedures.
- Mandated abuse reporter.
- Performs other duties as allowed by licensure.
- Performs other duties as assigned and allowed by Title XXII.

Education and Experience : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner must possess a High School Diploma AND must have completed a graduate nursing program culminating in a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN), certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and a furnishing license.
Five (5) years working in a mental health setting is required and two (2) years of experience in furnishing psychiatric medications.
Appropriate volunteer and internship experience will be considered. The incumbent must be 21 years of age.
Additional Training Requirements : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner must meet the minimum licensing requirement of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and maintain.
This position serves psychiatric clients with special medical concerns such as diabetes, respiratory conditions or special population requirements such as elderly or people receiving injectable medications.
Supervisory Responsibilities : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will work in conjunction with the Clinic Supervisor to orient, train and schedule other medical personnel providing services for the agency. The incumbent will
assist in the implementation and maintenance of medication policies, procedures and protocols within the individual programs as identified by the Clinic Supervisor.
Special Requirements : Must be able to meet and receive criminal records clearance as required by Title XXII, licensing regulations.
This includes FBI and DOJ clearance. A health screening by or under the direction of a physician must have been performed not more than one year prior to employment or within seven (7) days after employment.
Health screening must include a TB clearance not more than one year prior to employment or within seven (7) days after employment.
Employees must have a "valid" standard first aid card and CPR card from an accredited institution. Employees must be physically able to assist clients and / or staff in the evacuation of program facility in emergency situations.
Employee must be able to administer first aid and CPR in an emergency situation.

Language Ability : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
This employee has the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. The incumbent will be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Math Ability : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
The employee will have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and medication administration.
Reasoning Ability : The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
The incumbent will possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
License : The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will hold a valid California Driver's License, current automobile insurance and a good driving record as documented by a DMV report.
