Job Description
During the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, the K-12 Partner Adjunct in Special Education will prepare for and co-teach with a university faculty member assigned classes in the field of special education following a syllabus
guideline, maintain appropriate records, report needed data to the department, and complete all necessary professional development modules assigned by the University.
The candidate will teach face-to-face graduate level students in a district-based cohort model.
Required Education and Experience :
Be knowledgeable of the 13 disability categories outlined in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and the application of effective evidence-based classroom interventions for students receiving special education services.
Have experience working with K-12 students from various cultures and backgrounds.
Have experience teaching special education populations in K-12 public schools. Be able to apply and explain the legal principles of IDEA and advocacy in context of special education services.
Experience in identifying and interpreting Special Education research and evidence-based practices.
Understand assessment in special education and how to make instructional recommendations based on data.
Be available to teach evenings during the week.
Demonstrate proficiency using basic Learning Management Platforms for maintaining student assignments and grades.
Be a current employee in NEISD, NISD, or Comal ISD
Possess a master's degree in special education or a closely related field with at least 18 hours in special education.
Preferred Education and Experience :
Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in the field of Special Education from a regionally accredited institution or a closely related field with at least 18 hours in Special Education.
University will credential each applicant.
Experience in training or providing professional development for educators.
Previous teaching experience in a higher education setting.
Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
Recommendation from an administrator in NEISD, NISD, or Comal ISD.
Expertise in identifying, interpreting, and / or conducting Special Education research or implementing evidence-based practices.
