POSITION TITLE : MATHEMATICS COACH - MIDDLE sCHOOL
REPORTS TO : BUILDING PRINCIPAL / COORDINATOR MATHEMATICS
OVER-TIME STATUS : EXEMPT PAY GRADE : 711(10+1)
JOB SUMMARY :
The instructional coach is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of K-6 teachers to facilitate learning and independent application of effective instructional practices.
The instructional coach provides job-embedded support through classroom observations, descriptive feedback, modeling, data analysis, and planning across content areas.
The instructional coach plans and conducts staff development based on assessed building and / or teacher needs. The instructional coach works collaboratively with the Coordinator of Mathematics to support the professional growth and development of K-6 teachers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Assesses the individual and collective needs of teachers at assigned school(s);
- Creates a comprehensive and systematic plan to support the professional growth of teachers;
- Models effective instructional techniques and strategies that engage learners;
- Provides instructional coaching through observation of instruction and delivery of timely and appropriate feedback;
- Assists with writing exemplary lesson plans to serve as a model;
- Assists with the development of classroom, school, and district-level curriculum;
- Works collaboratively to help teachers analyze data and plan targeted and appropriate lessons;
- Works collaboratively with core content program specialists to identify needs and develop a plan of support;
- Models and provides support for classroom motivation and management to help teachers establish classroom environments conducive to learning;
- Plans and conducts high-quality professional development activities for school and district staff based on identified needs;
- Stays abreast of current developments, research, and new technology to enhance teaching and learning;
- Attends required staff development activities, instructional coach meetings, and other meetings as deemed necessary;
- Assists with monitoring inventories of instructional resources
- Works with students as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching and learning; demonstrated knowledge of techniques and strategies used to support adult learners;
- demonstrated ability to use data to increase the effectiveness of teachers through lesson plan development, professional development, and modeling best practices;
- ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel and the use of other technology tools;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other administrative staff, subordinates, supervisors, the School Board, and the general public.
- This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects;
- work requires reaching, standing, walking; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Five years of experience as a classroom teacher is a prerequisite for this position. The applicant must hold or be eligible for licensure in Virginia.
A Mathematics Specialist endorsement is required. Highly qualified candidates that do not yet have the Mathematics Specialist endorsement will have three years to obtain the endorsement.
If, at the end of the three-year time frame, the endorsement is not earned, the candidate will not be renewed for the Math Coach position.
