Purpose
Reporting directly to the Dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs, this pivotal role will lead the communications team in driving and executing communications activities and initiatives across the entire LBJ portfolio.
Responsibilities
Leadership, Operational Oversight & Collaboration
Leadership & Collaboration : Lead a team of marketing and creative professionals to support the LBJ School's marketing goals as well as the professional and career development goals of each individual.
Serve as a member of the University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) leadership team. Build strong partnerships and collaborate regularly within UMAC, as well as with other communications directors across the university, and senior marketing professionals and other stakeholders across campus.
Advance better communications for and within LBJ School's units / centers, helping them to publicize and communicate accomplishments in research, education and outreach, identify and reach audiences, improve internal communications, solve communications-related problems, reach target audiences effectively and advance fundraising, reputation management, community building and other goals.
Plan and manage the communication office budget and assets, ensuring that resources are used effectively and in compliance with the rules, regulations and procedures of The University of Texas and the LBJ School.
Communications and Content Strategy
Monitor national trends in public affairs impacting the School, evaluate competitive programs, conduct first-hand constituent research to learn how the LBJ School can better position itself to be a source of public policy information and expertise.
Drive content strategy for key campaigns. Direct and oversee the creation and production of all print, digital, and social media content for audiences that may include prospective and current students, faculty and staff, external constituents, and other key audiences.
Develop and implement digital strategy and technology / capability roadmap to enable a more cohesive experience for our constituents across digital channels, including the College of Education website and social media, email, etc.
supported by a reporting and analytics infrastructure to improve marketing campaign performance.
Executive and Strategic Communications
Work with Dean’s office on special communication deliverables such as speeches, talking points, event scripts, reports, graphic design and presentations.
In collaboration with the dean, monitor and manage reputational issues and crises and develop action plans and responses in accordance with communications colleagues in the Provost Office and University Marketing and Communications.
Marketing and Brand Strategy
Collaboratively create, plan, develop and execute short- and long-term integrated marketing strategy for the school's degree programs, department, and centers;
and advance the Signature Impact Areas, mission, vision and value
Develop and execute marketing strategy for undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, while influencing perception of the college for prospective faculty and staff.
Use data and metrics to evaluate and adapt strategies to address the evolving needs of the college and its programs.
Develop and implement a strong brand strategy and story, aimed at improving brand awareness and reputation.
Develop brand-level marketing channels and campaigns, including the College of Education website, social media platforms, and thought leadership events.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing, business, political science, public affairs, and / or relevant combination of educations and experience.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Leadership experience and a proven track record of delivering successful marketing and communications initiatives and strategies.
Experience envisioning, developing, and implementing successful and comprehensive strategic communications plan based on an organization’s goals and priorities.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, deliver against timelines, and manage details of concurrent projects.
Proven experience in media relations, stakeholder communications, and social media strategy.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, business or a related field. More than ten years of leadership experience in delivering successful high-profile marketing and communications initiatives and strategies in a higher education environment.
Familiarity with audience groups including undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, faculty, staff and external partners / stakeholders
Salary Range
$115,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Standard office conditions.
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
Some additional work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
Supervision of communications team staff.

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
