The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomes applications for the position of Vice President of Athletics
Salary Range
$140,000 - $160,000 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
- Reporting directly to the President and a member of the President’s Executive team, the Vice President of Athletics will be responsible for providing leadership and management for the intercollegiate athletic program including : policy issues, academic and athletic performance;
- fundraising, budgeting, fiscal management; scheduling; adherence to University, UT System, NCAA, and conference regulations;
staff supervision and evaluation, long-range planning, public relations, and athletic fundraising.
1. Provides leadership and sound decision-making with regard to all Athletics Department matters which reflects a commitment and adherence to the highest standards of integrity in academic, financial and business endeavors, as well as compliance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, UT System, and Institutional regulations and policies.
2. Cultivates effective relationships with on-campus and off-campus constituents in identifying, developing, and securing major philanthropic and corporate investments in order to generate significant financial support for the Athletics.
Achieves the fundraising goals and objectives to ensure the success of the University’s strategic plan.
3. Recruit, retain and regularly evaluate departmental operations, staff, programs, academic support services and activities to ensure all areas are effectively achieving established goals and objectives.
4. Actively engages in building long lasting relationships with Alumni, community, and conference members to create and sustain a positive impression of the University.
5. Effective leadership, development and management skills that engage directors and coaches to insure a competitive and high-quality Division II Athletic Program.
6. Successfully develop and oversee all athletics fundraising and development activities to include creating gift opportunities for donors and prospective donors, fostering and facilitating gift opportunities, and to raise other financial support for Intercollegiate Athletics.
7. Collaborates with departments within the University to achieve the Departments and University’s strategic fundraising goals.
8. Promote and market athletics programs within the University and the region.
9. Ability to build upon successful marketing relationships to promote the marketing, licensing, and merchandising associated with the University.
10. Recognize student successes, continue to engage students in academic excellence, and ensure that student-athlete welfare is a high priority.
11. Develop, recommend, and actively monitor the athletics program operating budget to insure operations are fiscally compliant.
12. Develop, recommend, and achieve short- and long-range strategic plans for the Athletics Department.
13. Lead vision, planning, and administrative oversight for renovation and any new facility construction while working with other departments as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Five (5) years of relevant sports administration experience in positions of increasing responsibility
3. Demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising and revenue generation
4. Able to travel extensively locally, nationally, and internationally
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s degree
2. Knowledge of Federal, State, NCAA, Conference, UT System, and University rules and regulations pertaining to athletic compliance and other related business operations including Title IX compliance.
