Position Focus :

This combined role is a dual report to the Title IX Office and the Office of Institutional Equity & Accessibility (OIEA).

Title IX Office

The Yale Title IX Office is an important part of Yale’s efforts to foster an environment of respect and belonging. The Title IX Office is a resource for the entire Yale community.

The Title IX Office consults with members of the community about their concerns and questions related to sex discrimination.

This includes sexual misconduct, as well as discrimination or harassment on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, non-conformance with gender stereotypes, and parenting or pregnancy status.

Reporting to the Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Associate Director, Title IX / OIEA will partner with Title IX leadership in coordinating all aspects of the University’s Title IX program within the graduate and professional schools and, as required, within the broader University community.

This position serves as a key member of the Title IX team and will collaborate with and provide guidance to the 20+ Deputy Title IX Coordinators across the graduate and professional schools.

This position is responsible for responding to inquiries and concerns raised by members of the graduate and professional student communities, coordinating accommodations and other supportive measures, facilitating access to other University support resources, and participating in the development and delivery of education and prevention programs.

Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility

The Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility is responsible for ensuring the University’s commitment to equitable and inclusive working and learning environments and enforces compliance with the University’s non-discrimination policies and state, federal, and local anti discrimination laws.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of OIEA, the Associate Director, Title IX / OIEA is responsible for responding to allegations of violations of University policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment based on protected classes, including thoroughly, impartially and promptly managing complex investigations, or facilitating informal resolutions of alleged violations of University policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment, supporting the University’s Accommodation Program for faculty members with permanent and temporary disabilities and for applicants for faculty positions at Yale who seek accommodations in the job application process due to a disability, and preparing and presenting equity, access, belonging, diversity and sexual harassment prevention training for Yale employees.

Essential Duties

  • 1. Reviews alleged violations of university policy against discrimination and harassment to determine appropriate resolution processes;
  • works with OIEA colleagues to develop investigative strategy; provides updates and advises relevant parties on investigative process;
  • conducts party and witness interviews and reviews related statements and files of relevant parties to make credibility assessments;
  • performs relevant legal analysis and communicates with parties and witnesses while protecting the integrity of the record and privacy of the investigation;

drafts and presents findings and appropriate supporting documents related to resolution of each matter. 2. Facilitates alternative dispute resolution options to resolve alleged violations of the university’s policy against discrimination and harassment.

3. Consult and partner with campus colleagues to respond to and address protected-class-based behavior; make recommendations to leadership for appropriate action intended to eliminate and prevent discrimination, harassment and retaliation in the learning and working environments;

and support campus stakeholders in the creation of favorable climates for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through consultation, education, and outreach.

4. Represents the department to constituencies on and off campus and provides training and professional development for members of the Yale community.

5. Provides facilitation of disability and religious accommodation programs. 6. Addresses complaints of ADA non-compliance and allegations of discriminatory practices or policies relating to the University’s disabled community;

evaluates disability accessibility barriers at the University; and identifies best practices for creating accessible environments at Yale for community members with disabilities.

7. Consult with colleagues responsible for absence management and staff accommodation on complex disability accommodation matters.

8. Reviews accommodation denial decisions made by Student Accessibility Services that result in allegations of discrimination.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of demonstrated experience in a human resources field at the professional level or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Required Skill / Ability 1 :

Demonstrated capacity to work in a diverse community and with a strong team orientation. Proven counseling, mediation, investigatory and conflict resolution skills.

Required Skill / Ability 2 :

Demonstrated ability to handle complex situations, particularly those with a high level of confidentiality and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.

Required Skill / Ability 3 :

Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and use of electronic databases.

Required Skill / Ability 4 :

Strong critical thinking, analytical, planning and organizational skills and the ability to understand and explain complex policies and regulation.

Required Skill / Ability 5 :

Ability to interpret federal, state, and local affirmative action, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination laws and regulations.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :

Understanding of academic environments. Juris Doctor or master’s degree in Human Resources, Higher Education, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience leading protected class-based discrimination and harassment investigations.
