DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform routine and specialized administrative and animal research support to Principal and Associate Investigators and Administration Officer within BTN.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to development of research protocols (i.e. standard operating procedures), execution of data collection efforts, data management and analysis, and procurement of supplies / equipment.
- Assist with research grant proposal development, experimental planning, data collection, and maintain experimental records (i.
e., lab book, animal health post-surgery).
- Support professional presentations and military audience briefings with experience in PowerPoint, Excel, and poster presentations.
- Provide effective feedback to research staff and other members of the research support team.
- Provide monthly status reports on completed, on-going, and future projects.
- Lead projects at the direction of the principal investigator, which shall include writing technical reports, performing advanced data interpretation, and drafting manuscripts.
- Assist in preparation of research proposals and whitepapers to various stakeholders and funding agencies as needed.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of research progress reports and briefings required to sustain funded research.
- Collaborate with Government and Contractor personnel to plan, develop, and gain approval of human use protocols as required for the performance of this requirement.
- Animal research to involve, but is not limited to : Handling of subjects to deliver injections, oral gavage, and subdermal device implantation.
Collection of biosamples of blood products, biofluid, and brain tissue. Assist with animal surgeries including but not limited to surgical preparations and post-op care.
Assist in analysis of behavior and physiological data.
- Maintain and manage lab equipment and animal room facilities.
- Maintenance of records for laboratory reagents and cold storage biosamples.
- Train other laboratory personnel concerning experimental techniques and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a laboratory inventory of chemical reagents and surgical supplies required for these tasks and recommend equipment and supplies for experimental procedures.
- When warranted, communicate with equipment suppliers and other vendors regarding price quotes, product specifications, and other support.
- Recommend equipment acquisitions appropriate for experimental procedures and maintain a laboratory inventory of equipment and supplies required for these tasks.
- Remain continuously informed on current WRAIR, sponsor, and Government policies, rules, regulations, and practices with respect to project execution.
- Analyze complex and / or ambiguous situations, identify workable solutions and their potential outcomes, and make appropriate determinations based on regulations and policies.
- Collaborate with diverse teams that could include military, other contractors, and DoD civilians. Provide consistent and persistent follow-up and follow through in the development and maintenance of interpersonal relationships and professional communications.
REQUIRED DEGREE / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION :
Must have graduate level training and proficiency in statistical analysis, biomedical research, and quantitative analysis.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
Must have direct mid level experience supporting Animal Research to include, but not limited to : Handling of subjects to deliver injections, oral gavage, and subdermal device implantation.
