General Statement of Job
The duties of the Spanish Instructor will include the following : Teaches assigned curriculum Spanish courses and assists with the college's Associate in Arts and Associate in Science programs.
Additional instructor duties will include meeting with students as needed and other general college duties. Additional responsibilities to the college : receive, review, process, submit and file a variety of documents and reports including FTE and LDA, course outlines / tests / syllabus, work orders, and other forms.
The position reports to the Foreign Language / University Transfer Department Chair.
Essential Job Functions
Provides instruction for Spanish 110, 111, 112
Provides instruction in Spanish language and culture working with students in a formal classroom setting as well as individualized attention.
Ability to effectively evaluate student proficiency in written, oral and reading capabilities of the Spanish language.
Assists in department assessments of all Spanish courses in order to meet work effectiveness and strategic goals.
Makes student referral to Student Assistance Program, Disability Services, Tutoring, Joblink, ESC, as needed.
Responds to telephone calls and emails.
Receives, reviews, processes, files, and / or submits a variety of documents and reports.
Communicates with staff and faculty to overall awareness of curriculum information and curriculum department head communication.
Operates a variety of office equipment such as computer, printer, tyewriter, fax machine, copier, telephone, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various individuals and groups such as students, faculty, staff, other division personnel, students / customer, supervisor, and department heads.
Performs related duties as directed.
Qualifications or Standards
Master's degree in Spanish / Hispanic Studies, or a related field of study with 18 graduate hours in Spanish / Hispanic Studies.
Preferably one (1) year of community college teaching experience
