Under general direction of the physician and the Operations Manager, renders professional nursing services to Polaris Boats employees consistent with medical directives of the Medical Director.
Participates in the assessment and development of staff occupational health services and needs and the implementation of occupational health care programs.

Administers corporate employee health services by :
- Organizing and maintaining the policies of the occupational health nursing program consistent with the company's general policies concerning health services, Beacon Health Ventures and Beacon Health System.
- Planning, developing, and promoting the necessary facilities, equipment, supplies, and record system to operate the employee health services.
- Selecting, ordering, and maintaining supplies and equipment consistent with the needs of the Medical Department and with consideration for cost control.
- Assisting in the development of annual goals, providing input into the implementation of these goals, and preparing policies and procedures for the Medical Department.
- Establishing a first aid program for the handling of emergencies occurring during the nurse's absence.
- Maintaining an effective medical record system which will highlight individual and corporate health and safety problems as well as provide essential medical and legal data.
- Periodically evaluating the medical program and making recommendations for improvement and expansion of services to management.
- Periodically reviewing and assisting in maintaining updated medical directives from the Medical Director for the treatment of occupational injuries and for the emergency treatment of non-occupational illnesses and injuries.
- Monitoring, recording, and reporting safety and environmental standards as established by the Industrial Hygienist.
- Participating in disaster planning within and outside the company through involvement with in-house committees as well as community agencies.
- Collaborating with other members of the health team such as occupational health physicians, industrial hygienist, and safety engineers.
- Coordinating the company's health and safety benefits with employee health service activities.
- Assisting the company in the developing and administering injury and illness absentee and disability management controls.
- Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all departments of the company, Medical Director and community agencies.
Renders professional nursing services to Polaris Boats employees by :
- Providing emergency care services for worker injury and / or illness within a protocol developed in collaboration with an occupational health physician.
- Providing emergency treatment for acute or serious non-occupational illnesses and injuries as authorized by the Medical Director.
Referring the employee to his / her own physician for further care.
- Assisting in procuring a physician for those employees who have no family physician and who are in need of acute non-occupational care in accordance with policies established by Beacon Health Ventures.
- Arranging safe transportation for employees who must be transferred for further care.
Promotes health maintenance by :
- Notifying employees and coordinating all annual physical examinations and appropriate health screens.
- Assisting in the physical examinations by directing the employee to complete the Occupational and Medical History form and by completing diagnostic studies as needed at the time of the examination.
- Maintaining a case management system for monitoring of all ill or injured employees.
- Assessing health status of employees, recommending appropriate health screenings, conducting on-site health evaluations, and collaborating with Medical Director in making follow-up recommendations.
- Providing health counseling for employees and becoming familiar with community and hospital resources, programs, and services to make them known to employees.
- Contributing to the design of health controls and surveillance relative to actual and potential toxic or hazardous conditions in the work environment.
- Exploring with management ways to promote environmental health.
- Promoting health maintenance and prevention of illness or injury at work and in the community.
- Assisting in promoting the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and in helping employees access the program when needed.
Maintains appropriate employee medical records by :
- Recording services rendered to employees on individual records.
- Assisting in the completion of workers compensation reports in accordance with company policy.
- Interpreting trends and needs for further training, education, counseling, or expansion of services.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of health and safety education programs by :
- Providing occupational health information, i.e., training and orienting new employees when occupational health is of concern, proper issue, wear, and maintenance of protective equipment, and prevention and care of personal health problems.
- Coordinating and facilitating first aid education and training to include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Response Training, and Disaster Education.
- Participating in Safety Committee meetings and making recommendations for changes based on industrial hygiene and ergonomic principles.
Assisting in the promotion of safety campaigns and safety training and education.
Coordinating orientation and providing instruction for on-site occupational health nursing training programs.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by :
Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements :
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license / certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position / department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through successful completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing with a current license in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse, current Spirometry certification, and two to three years nursing experience required.
Candidate with experience in on-site occupational health or public health nursing desired. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, CPR Instructor, EMT training and / or First Response training, experience or equivalent preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA regulations and Indiana State Worker's Compensation laws, understanding of medical documentation and record-keeping, and competency in the occupation health care field, including assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating occupationally related health care issues.
- Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret data needed to assess the general direction of employee health services, company needs, occupational health programs and budget compliance.
- Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in a professional manner with the Medical Director, physicians, community agencies, company employees, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
Working Conditions
Employee health environment with prolonged periods of standing and walking and occasional lifting and positioning of company employees.
Physical Demands
Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk / stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts / wheelchairs, lift up to 50 pounds, to position / lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds without assistance, provide CPR, etc.
