Wastewater Treatment Operator

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE : Install, operate, monitor, and maintain systems equipment and auxiliaries such as those for the generation of chilled water, tempered water, domestic water, industrial water, hot water, and compressed air to support the production campus;

Install, operate, monitor, and maintain systems equipment and auxiliaries such as those for the treatment of industrial wastewater including the maintenance of specified chemical balances, chemical testing, chemical adjustments, and reporting.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED : High School GED or equivalent.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : 4 years as a water or wastewater operator.

MINIMUM LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW : Georgia Industrial Wastewater Treatment license or a Certified Class I, II or III Biological Wastewater Treatment license.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS : (Preferred qualifications)

• Completion of an accredited trades training course or equivalent knowledge and skill acquired by means of practical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic mechanical skills associated with trade.
• Holder of a Second-Class Operating Engineer's License as issued by Georgia Association of Power Engineers (GAPE).
• Holder of a US EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Independently plan work assignments and perform duties with a minimum of direct supervision.
• Train and direct efforts of plant trades helpers, junior tradesmen and tradesmen assigned to assist in the performance of work.
• Collaborate with functional personnel in own and other OFS organizations to resolve problems and recommend solutions based on trades knowledge.
• Must be able to work any shift / schedule.

This includes following established health and safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean, organized work area, wearing, and properly storing all personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively engaging as a safety conscious worker with personal safety and wellness as a priority.

• Operate, maintain and make repairs to WWT systems equipment and auxiliaries, maintain specified chemical balances, perform tests, adjust processes and generate reports.
• Troubleshoot and optimize WWT treatment process.
• Perform lab test procedures and operate WWT filter press.
• Precipitate inorganics from wastewater using coagulants, flocculants and pH adjustment.
• Ensure compliance with county discharge permit.
• Operate, maintain and repair utility plant system equipment and auxiliaries for the generation of hot water (boilers), chilled water (chillers), and compressed air (compressors).
• Perform lab test procedures and adjust system water chemistry.
• Possess good working knowledge of computers, industrial controls, and instrumentation.
• Mechanical duties include replacing pump parts, pump seals, & valve components.
• Must work as a contributing team member with a positive attitude toward others.
• Must be honest and capable of independent shift work.
