Energy efficiency in windows plays a key role in both residential and commercial construction. The Thermal Engineer will run analysis to develop and optimize thermal control designs. The position will also test and validate modifications for thermal issues with simulations or physical testing. The Thermal Engineer will document tests and collaborate with Design Engineers and Product Management on thermal solutions and certification maintenance.
Position Overview
The Thermal Engineer will be responsible for understanding the technical parameters that impact the energy savings and durability of a window or door, gathering and maintaining knowledge of Building & Energy Code requirements, and developing test plans and drawings for conducting testing to industry standards.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Understand the technical parameters that impact the energy savings and durability of a window or door
- Gather and maintain knowledge of Building & Energy Code requirements
- Gather and maintain knowledge of Quaker's window and door products, parts, accessories & systems
- Develop test plans and drawings for conducting testing to industry standards
- Design testing equipment, jigs / fixtures, and chambers
- Conduct thermal simulation and analysis
- Run and witness in-house thermal testing
- Maintain NFRC - National Fenestration Rating Council certifications and Energy Star energy performance ratings on U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient ratings processes.
- Prepare results to document findings and communicate recommendations
- Present results of analysis to engineering management
- Collaborate with Quaker's Design and Research & Development Teams in the development and improvement of products
- Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
- Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
- Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
- Communicate via email, prepare reports and work schedules.
- Review and analyze data and information concerning thermal simulation analysis.
- Plan, prioritize and monitor activities to modify testing structures.
- Complete assigned tasks / projects in a timely manner.
