Sr. Corporate EHS Manager

SUMMARY

The Senior Corporate EHS Manager will report directly to the Corporate Director of EHS and lead company-wide environmental, health, safety and security policies.

This position will develop and manage environmental, health, safety, and security programs for Highline Warren sites to provide the foundation for regulatory compliance.

This position will partner with peers across our internal supply chain (Operations, Logistics, Finance, Legal, etc.) to build EHS into our Corporate Culture.

The person that fills this spot will need to be a coach and mentor to others on the Corporate EHS Team, as well as individual Site EHS Leads, Site Leaders, and Site Leadership Teams.

They will have responsibility, in cooperation with Site EHS Leads & other Site Leaders, for EHS systems in our Oil Plants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To Perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.

  • Develop, edit and execute EHS plans and programs across the business.
  • Develop, edit and execute Corporate Security standards and plans across the business.
  • Establish and implement policies and programs to create the foundation for a culture rooted in EHS.
  • Work with Site & Functional Leaders to develop a strong safety culture through coaching and modeling the principles of Human & Organization Performance (H.

O.P.) operational philosophy. Develop and / or modify systems based on H.O.P. principles for practical application.

Create or update EHS Training as needed, ensuring that each site’s EHS Lead is capable of delivering the material effectively.

When warranted, deliver special EHS training that may require a higher level of knowledge or skill than what may exist at any given site.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal EHS regulations. Oversight of reporting requirements for Oil Plants and other sites as needed.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and implement solutions to remove risk.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Work with sites to effectively investigate and document all incidents. This includes employee injury, near miss, property damage, security breaches, etc.
  • Supervise, coach and develop the EHS System Administrator.
  • Utilize data to identify trends in EHS performance and devise plans for improvement.
  • Report & track data used in the measurement of EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure their visibility across the company.

As we mature in our EHS journey, propose more pro-active or leading KPIs.

  • Oversight of our EHS data management systems and use.
  • Ensure project safety reviews are completed timely and documented for all capital projects. Assist in follow-up actions as needed.
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement efforts to control costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness of our EHS initiatives.
  • Maintain an open and candid working relationship with EHS Director in discussing matters of importance.
  • Adhere to established company values, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location. Ability to travel up to 60% of the time.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An individual qualified for this job must be able to :

  • Demonstrate strong leadership traits, coaching / mentoring abilities, and alliance formation.
  • Ability to easily build interpersonal relationships across functions and roles.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, motivational, and project management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of EHS and Security standards and regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge with use & storage of bulk flammable / combustible liquids. (NFPA codes & PSM standards)
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize potential issues and offer different options on how to make improvements.
  • Highly observant and quick to assess potential operational issues in any work environment from EHS & Security perspectives.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills. Must be able to pull information in a clear, concise way and present it to Plant Leaders, Functional Leaders, and Sr.

Corporate Leaders, as necessary. Must be able to field questions on the presented materials. Must be able to write standards / policy in an easily understood manner.

Effectively and professionally communicate with Associates, team members, and other internal or external customers and present information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.

Create an environment built on collaboration.

  • Must be able to write accurate reports and correspondence in a professional manner.
  • Adept at developing effective training material & methods for the adult learner to support Site Leadership Teams as they continue to educate their workforce.
  • Possess strong analytical skills to pull and manipulate data to produce meaningful, actionable analysis.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply critical thinking to base proposed plans / decisions on good sound judgment from both a regulatory, general industry practice and present operational challenges.
  • Demonstrated skills on performing varying types risk assessments, JHA / JSAs, PHAs, etc.
  • Previous application of Human & Organization Performance (H.O.P.) principles and practices. Ability to coach to this philosophy.
  • Skilled at using various types of continuous improvement tools to help sites improve their EHS & Security efforts.
  • Possess a temperament biased toward action, at the same time showing some level of operational empathy as needed.
  • Ability to deliver results in a timely fashion, without compromising the quality of the results.
  • Must be able to build sustainability into each plan, program, process that is created.
  • Must possess strong time management skills to be able to manage one’s own schedule. Can be a remote position, realizing there is a high level of travel associated with it.

Must be able to be able to adapt schedules as business needs demand.

  • Must be available during non-business hours to respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Efficiently operate a computer and demonstrate PC proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications :

  • Proven 10+ years’ Safety experience, with 5 years in a Corporate / Advisory role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following areas : Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety, Security, Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree and / or professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CEP, etc., preferred.

  • Able to travel via air and / or ground to site locations across the U.S. efficiently. Ability to travel up to 60%.
  • Able to move throughout both inside and outside facilities. Must be able to navigate stairs, concrete, paved & graveled surfaces, and uneven surface conditions.
  • Able to work from laptop computer separately as well as with desktop accessories.
  • Capable of carrying laptop computer and other necessary materials during travel periods.
  • Must be able to wear necessary PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes w / protective toe, hearing protection, etc.)

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS

The environmental conditions described here are representative of those the associate encounters while performing the Essential Functions of the job.

The individual will work in multiple work environments to include office, manufacturing, distribution & warehousing. Noise levels will vary depending on the environment he / she are in.

Where hearing protection is required, it is expected, this individual will abide by the site rules.

  • Conditions in our plants & warehouses may have swings in temperatures depending on location and time of year. Individual must be prepared to work in cold or hot environments when assessing operations, meeting with employees, etc.
