Responsibilities
1. Transports surgical specimens from surgical suites, GI and Breast Center to the lab in a timely manner. Ensures quality of specimens and accurate patient information on surgical requisitions prior to transporting back to lab.
2. Receives specimens of tissues, and organs to be processed to detect and diagnose various types of diseases, malignancies, and other abnormalities.
3. Prepares specimens for cutting and mounting using auto-tissue processors, paraffin embedding equipment and microtomes (includes processing room, general embedding and cutting area, slide distribution, cytology, send out area, accessioning, block count, frozen section and immuno lab).
4. Prepares microscopic slides by processing patient fixed and / or frozen unfixed tissue and patient body fluids for immediate examination by pathologists.
5. Follows formulas and procedures to use various types of chemicals, reagents, and stains for routine, special staining, and immuno staining processes.
6. Recognizes computer problems and immediately reports computer problems to supervisor or Histology Technologist II.
7. Follows established procedure for releasing information to physicians about specimens and the status of pending results.
8. Supports departmental QA program by maintaining and preparing instruments which is done by performing calibration, programming, maintenance and QC functions.
9. Performs selected morgue duties when needed including tissue rotation and disposal, releasing of remains and assisting with autopsies.
10. Performs other job- related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
1. Minimum requirements Have earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological sciences.
2. Ability to perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
3. All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening Test.
4. Certification-eligible applicants must pass examination within eighteen (18) months after curriculum requirements are met or after one year of employment.

Experience in a Clinical Histopathology Laboratory Setting
