The Senior Project Manager role plans, directs, manages and provides oversight of assigned design and construction projects to ensure that company goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed schedule and budget parameters.
The Sr. Project Manager effectively communicates with field staff, technical staff, other contractors and management. The Sr.
Project Manager provides internal and external coordination and collaboration with project partners and stakeholders. This position will assist in the management of key Company initiatives and projects.
Directly reporting to the company Chief Operations Officer, The Sr. Project Manager will be responsible for managing and developing a team of civil engineers / project managers to achieve the company goals.
The position requires considerable judgment and latitude in performing job duties and is expected to function effectively with minimal to moderate direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a team of project managers and civil engineers to achieve company operation goals.
- Identify and estimate upcoming projects that could be beneficial for the company.
- Provide detailed constructability reviews of project documents; make recommendations.
- Advise, consult, lead and provide feedback on the development of construction procurement documents, including plans.
- Manage day-to-day work on projects in construction phases; coordinate and make recommendations regarding status of work.
- Attend and actively participate in partnering sessions with agencies, and organizations to obtain feedback on performance and effectiveness;
represent Contractor needs; and develop strong working relationships throughout the industry.
- Assist in the procurement of projects using various delivery methods, including Design / Bid / Build, Design / Build, P3, and other innovative project delivery methodologies.
- Review customer requests through formal or informal processes and provide prompt responses to keep projects on schedule.
- Provide regular detailed reporting / metrics on existing projects, resources allocation, project status completion statistics, any variances to plan and forecasting of future needs.
- Review and monitor project work to ensure that progress is within expected guidelines and is completed on time and within budget.
- Review and provide recommendations on potential Change Orders on projects and process per contractual requirements, providing detailed analysis of impacts to the budget and schedule.
- Regularly review project schedules, analyze, and monitor construction progress to determine impacts to schedule and provide feedback to company leadership.
- Regularly attend and / or lead detailed project meetings with other contractors, consultants, and outside agencies to ensure goals are achieved.
- Monitor and communicate project-related issues, scope changes, variances and contingencies that may arise during the construction of projects to leadership.
Facilitate amicable solutions.
- Meet with and effectively communicate with project partners, project stakeholders and general public.
- Resolve conflicts between the contractors, engineering consultants and others. Assumes a lead role in any dispute resolution activities occurring on assigned projects.
- Responsible for the coordination effort between the Company and Customer for invoicing projects in an efficient and effective manner.
- Advise, consult, and communicate directly with project management team on project matters.
- Occasionally prepare and lead presentations to AGC, ACPA, and other outside agencies and organizations.
- Manage project budgets in an effective, efficient manner.
- Complete any other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field). Other relevant education, training or work experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree.
- Registered Professional Engineer or State Civil Engineer in the State of Arkansas.
- Minimum of 10 years of highway or related industry experience, with at least 8 years in construction management or related experience for highway projects.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role in the project management field.
- Strong leadership / managerial skills to coordinate with the project management team.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external resources.
- Technically astute and strategic in thinking.
- Strong interpersonal skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to focus on details as required and can work well within a deadline driven environment.
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Office tools, and knowledge of applicable project management software (Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, and P-6 scheduling).
Preferred Qualifications :
- Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Prior responsibility on large multi-million-dollar projects
- Innovative project delivery methodology experience, such as Design-build or public private partnerships.
