JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director, Student Access Services (SAS), as part of the Student Academic Hub, oversees services to students with disabilities (SWDs) and facilitates access for SWD who proactively contact SAS directly or the Student Academic Hub in request of assistance.

In consultation with the AVP for Student Success and other SAS staff, the Associate Director, SAS navigates the operations of the SAS office, provides case-management for prospective and currently enrolled Marymount students, supervises the Learning Specialist, and innovates ways to encourage a campus climate that fosters a sense of belonging for this student population.

Salary commensurate with experience in higher education, and range starts at $65,600.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Determination of Disability and Reasonable Accommodations

  • Student accommodations evaluation and support : Reviews clinical documentation with AVP for Student Success and other SAS staff from students who desire to register with SAS for the purpose of securing disabilities-based accommodationsDetermines if a disability existsEngages student (often with parents included) in the interactive process to have a clarifying dialogue to assess condition, manner and duration of disabilityFacilitates creation of appropriate accommodations document for student to distribute to facultyDevelops case notes documenting the above processOversees Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) services, resolves issues and billing with third party DHH service providers
  • Facilitates student engagement and self-advocacy to underscore students’ responsibilities when requesting, receiving, and collaborating to implement their approved academic and / or other accommodations
  • Facilitates conflict resolution between SAS students and / or campus stakeholders (e.g., Instructors) to resolving relevant disputes relative to their access

SAS Operations

  • Develops collaborative and collegial office environment for SAS staff / graduate assistants
  • Maintains the day-to-day functioning of the SAS office in conjunction with the Learning Specialist
  • Guides the Learning Specialist’s supervision of SAS graduate assistants to ensure they are constructively learning from their direct service and administrative support to students with disabilities
  • Evaluates and responds to (with consults as needed with the ADA Compliance Officer and / or other institutional stakeholders) : Individual student access needs and resource demands, patterns of student access request / usage and concerns / complaints about access, access compliance risks to SAS and the institution
  • Makes recommendations for / implements streamlined processes and procedures
  • Innovates more robust ways to connect with SWD population

Triage Management

  • Triaging students who define their concerns as nearing crisis levels and who need immediate attention
  • Managing reported information by and for students as it is received by SAS
  • Investigating student cases as necessary in order to develop a plan to resolve their concerns
  • Prioritizing follow-through responses to students and stakeholders
  • Writing comprehensive case notes on challenging situation and their resolution

Internal Consultancy

  • Advises faculty to ensure pressing questions about accommodations are answered promptly, efficiently, and completely.
  • Consults with faculty, deans, and staff about SWDs’ individual needs and appropriate accommodations, taking into account : Specific course’s or program’s designInstallation parameters (e.

g., practicality and logistics planning) of those student accommodationsStrategic intervention needs should unique student challenges arise

  • Provides general ADA / 504 technical assistance to faculty and staff to promote inclusive practices and accommodated student access for students with disabilities as a whole
  • Alerts faculty, deans and staff of specific physical or virtual / electronic barrier removal needs for specific SAS students

Learning Support

Supports and collaborates with the Learning Specialist in offering :

Student metacognitive partnering to help students understand their learning and academic decisions in the context of disability by developing : Scholastic Self-awareness - Assisting students’ awareness of their own academic strengths and challenges in light of their disability, and to use that information to effectively evaluate the effectiveness of their academic choicesAcademic Persistence - Assisting students in maximizing the likelihood that they will enter, persevere, and graduate from MarymountStudent Well-being - Assisting students in feeling confident that they have the personal qualities and institutional support necessary to succeed at Marymount

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS

Implementing approved supplemental activities and programs to assist with learning, social, and internship / practicum challenges that target areas outside of the classroom : Student Health & Wellness collaboration for students with primarily chronic health impairmentsAdmissions collaboration for recruiting activitiesDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion collaboration for disabilities awareness monthCenter for Career Development (Ex : National Disabilities Awareness and Disability Employment Month;

Workforce Recruitment Program)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience 3 years of related experience that includes : Working with students with a broad range of disabilities, qualifying and providing students with accommodations to aid in their equal engagement of university activities and / or resources, as well as navigating student conflict resolution around college level disabilities-related challenges.

Clear knowledge of ADA and the Rehabilitation Acts compliance requirements as applied to developing accommodations for students that are reasonable, fair and consistent.

Clear knowledge of the differences between ADA and IDEA.

Licenses or Certifications None.

Financial Responsibility No direct accountability for financial transactions.

Supervision Supervising graduate assistants / student workers.

Special Knowledge Ability to read psychoeducational or neuro-psychological assessments through the lens of the ADA (e.g.

determining a disability based upon condition, manner and duration of an impairment). Experience and / or interest in conflict resolution management and processes.

Experience and / or understanding of disabilities access requirements as applied to a broad purview of student requests / needs / complaints.
