Mission Summary :

The Operational Safety Strategy & Compliance Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of autonomous vehicle systems at Motional.

This position is dedicated to developing and implementing robust safety strategies, compliance frameworks, and meticulous documentation practices.

By collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, the specialist contributes to enhancing operational safety standards, mitigating risks, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Ultimately, the role is instrumental in advancing the forefront of autonomous vehicle technology while prioritizing safety and regulatory adherence in all aspects of vehicle operations.

What you'll be doing :

  • Develop and refine operational safety strategies for autonomous vehicle systems, focusing on all stages from development to deployment and ongoing operation.
  • Support vehicle operations teams by providing safety guidance, training, and resources to ensure adherence to safety procedures during daily operations.
  • Maintain comprehensive operational documentation, including safety procedures, incident response procedures, and Safety manuals.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of autonomous vehicle operations to assess compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to review and approve autonomous vehicle operation procedure changes, ensuring safety implications are adequately addressed.
  • Prepare and present reports on safety performance metrics, compliance status, and ongoing initiatives to senior management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather input and feedback on documentation needs, ensuring alignment with operational practices.
  • Act as a point of contact for inquiries related to operational documentation, responding promptly and accurately to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement within the organization, promoting proactive safety practices and knowledge sharing among teams.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management; job duties may change at any time with or without notice

What we're looking for :

  • At least 3 years of experience in operational safety, compliance management, or a related field within the automotive or aviation industries.
  • Experience in supporting operations teams and familiarity with operational challenges and requirements.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain comprehensive operational documentation, including procedures, manuals, and incident reports.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and safety analyses.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with software tools used for documenting procedures and managing compliance (e.g., AODocs, G Suite, Confluence, JIRA).

Bonus Points (not required) :

  • Specific experience with autonomous vehicles is strongly preferred.
  • Certification in safety or compliance management (e.g., ASP, CSP)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • OSHA certifications
  • Google Workspace certification
  • Project management skills or PMP certification

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and at times for long periods;

walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
