Requirements
The Privacy Counsel, Global Privacy Operations will play a key role in supporting the efforts of the Global Privacy team in managing data privacy risk at eBay.
They will be working with team of global privacy experts that are innovative, dynamic, and have a risk-based approach and can do attitude .
The role will directly collaborate with legal, business, product, and other partners responsible for operations across eBay and on exciting and evolving topics involving personal information in these areas.
Specific duties will include :
- Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements with partners, service providers, and other third parties
- Conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) on processing activities involving the collection, processing & disclosure of personal information
- Providing timely and pragmatic legal advice to business leaders, including proactively identifying issues and developing recommendations pertaining to privacy laws and regulations in the Americas and working with business and product teams to ensure privacy compliance within customer-facing designs and flows;
- Supporting key elements of the eBay privacy program, including identifying applicable regulatory or legal privacy risks associated with new laws, conducting gap assessments, and advising on appropriate controls, risk mitigation options and compliance strategies.
- Leading cross-functional privacy-related projects
- Advising on employee-privacy related obligations and support handling of employee privacy-related requests (such as access and deletion requests) as needed
- Staying informed as a subject matter expert on applicable laws, regulations, industry mentorship, and industry trends that may impact processing of personal information, including potential or likely changes to data privacy laws in the Americas
- Support privacy incident assessment and response as needed
- Performing other duties and projects as assigned
Requirements
- JD or foreign equivalent, 2-5 years of privacy-related work experience and membership of a U.S. State Bar
- Specific experience working with, and knowledge of, privacy laws applicable to businesses, such as CCPA, CPRA, GDPR, LGPD, PIPEDA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, as well as other U.
S. state and federal privacy and data security and global data protection laws
- Experience working cross-functionally and partnering with legal, business, information security, human resources, data governance, risk management, and engineering teams
- Strong relationship-building, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, and the ability to effectively influence partners by communicating privacy-related concepts and practical impact
- Proven ability to successfully multi-task, remain adaptable and agile to changes in business priorities, and deliver pragmatic, risk-based recommendations to the business
- Ability to support urgent matters and collaborate on time-sensitive legal obligations as needs arise
- Demonstrated ability to own one’s work and manage time spent on projects independently with minimized supervision while performing duties
Valued Skills :
- In-house experience preferred
- Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP / US) or a similar certification or a willingness to complete such certification within a reasonable time following hire
- Experience giving timely and practical privacy advice in a global organization
- Experience advising on employee-related privacy matters

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.
$126,800 - $187,550
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
