Position Summary The Assistant Director of Civic Engagement & Advocacy oversees the social justice and advocacy programming at the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership & Sustainability (ECCLS).

Position is responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing programs and services to promote global engagement and expand existing partnerships.

Job Duties Job Duty Name Essential Functions Description of Job Duties

  • Coordinates the successful implementation of high quality educational and social justice-development programs in support of the Center’s mission for the campus and community focusing on student engagement.
  • Documents the development, planning, implementation, assessment, analysis, and fiscal management of the Center’s civic engagement, social justice and advocacy programs and services;

maintains well-organized electronic records; produces thorough post-program reports.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of meetings, events, activities and logistical support for the Center’s civic engagement, social justice and advocacy activities.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of meetings, events, activities and logistical support for the Center’s global service mission trips and activities.
  • Assists with the design, production, and distribution of professional quality electronic and print promotional material in English and Spanish, including social media, to support the marketing of the civic engagement, social justice and advocacy programs and global service missions.
  • Assists with monitoring budget activity and recommends budgetary adjustments to ensure the successful implementation of all programs and activities of the Center.
  • Serves on university committees and attends departmental and university meetings as appropriate / assigned.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and community to build relationships that support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership & Sustainability.
  • Assists in strategic planning and fiscal management of programming budget to ensure the successful implementation of all programs and activities of the Center.
  • Assists in hiring full-time, part-time professional, and student staff.
  • Develops and provides quarterly and annual program reports, to include services and activities executed during said period.
  • Assists with the digital reporting system utilized to track, student involvement, and community service (Give Pulse).
  • Supervises assigned staff and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • At the request of the VP of Mission & Ministry and the Director, represents the Center at various community, civic, and campus functions.
  • Attends professional development training related to the position which may require travel.
  • Assists with advising and support of student leadership and global service activities / programs, which may include oversight of student travel within and beyond San Antonio, Texas.
  • Supports all Ettling Center student engagement, advocacy, social justice, community partnerships, global immersion and academic service-learning programs and services.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a positive, supportive, and welcoming student-centered work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong skills in managing and optimizing complex administrative processes and workflows.
  • Experience and competency in using business software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher etc.) and other software / platform systems (Canva, Canvas, Blackboard, Banner, Give Pulse, Campus Labs (Engage) and / or Degree Works).
  • Strong budget management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, small group and public written, oral, and digital communication skills.
  • Ability to embrace and promote the UIW mission values of compassion and service.
  • Strong organization and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of competence.

  • Ability to travel within and beyond San Antonio, Texas, to include international travel as appropriate.

  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. Required Work Experience

  • Three (3) years of student support / service experience working in an educational, civic, religious, and / or college / university environment or other relevant complex office environment.
  • Two (2) of experience in the development, implementation, and analysis of support programs and services for students, faculty, and staff at the K12 and / or collegiate level.
  • Two (2) years of experience leading teams or serving in a supervisory role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university in the fields of Education, Liberal Arts, Business, and / or Social Work / Counseling.
  • Experience with intercultural projects and initiatives.
  • Experience working with higher education and / or K12 budgets.
  • Leadership experience in an educational, government, civic, and / or religious environment.
  • Bilingual in the Spanish language.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

  • Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
  • Must possess a valid current passport and be fully vaccinated for COVID 19 as required for international travel.

Work Hours Normal work hours are 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional extended hours to meet departmental goals to include evenings and / or weekends. Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs for table set-up / tear-down and marketing material transportation / set-up at events.
  • Ability to actively engage in events, to include Zoom meetings, for extended periods of time. Note that some in-person events will be outdoors and may include wearing closed shoes, gloves, & protective eye-wear for gardening events and mission trips.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage stakeholders and partners, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
