Position Summary
This Dining Services Management position is an administrative and supervisory position. This employee is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a diversified staff of dining service personnel in the operation of an overnight dining commons and kitchen.
Work involves the application of judgment and initiative in planning work programs, staffing for operation, requisitioning and purchasing food supplies, and training employees in food service and preparation.
This class differs from a Dining Commons Manager II in that a Dining Commons Manager I is responsible for the supervision of fewer employees and a dining service unit serving a smaller volume of meals.
Direction is received from an administrative superior on matters pertaining to special menus and operating policies. Work is evaluated through observation and in terms of customer reaction.
Should be ServSafe certified or completed ServSafe manager certification within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies
A basic knowledge of PC's and / or food production software. Ability to read, and interpret information and reports. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from faculty, students, staff, and regulatory agencies.
Ability to develop ideas that will result in major improvements in existing services. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including credit card machines, UGA card machine, cash register.
Ability to operate commercial equipment used in a kitchen. Ability to care for and maintain equipment. Ability to operate motor vehicles (trucks and vans).
Ability to perform work requiring use of a computer search for data or information in computer files. Ability to generate standard reports developed by others.
Ability to input or edit information, and / or enter data into spreadsheets or programs developed by others. Ensure / safeguard data integrity.
Ability to create graphics, multimedia, and / or desktop publishing applications. Ability to supervise regular employees and students.

Direct the operations of the dining commons during late / overnight service to ensure high-quality, safe and cost-efficient food production and service to customers on assigned shift.
Supervise activities of assigned staff, including student, full-time and supervisory employees. Interviews prospective employees;
participates in counseling and discipline.

Utilize computerized food production / inventory system, as appropriate, to ensure that food and supplies are adequate and efficiently used on assigned shift.
Be attentive and proactive in customer service. Direct and facilitate the charge for meeting the department's customer service objectives by constantly analyzing unit operations to ensure maximum effectiveness and compliance with departmental objectives.
Communicate effectively and efficiently with customers, staff, community groups and vendor representatives. Assist with the systems for display, merchandising, marketing and advertising and promotion, making the most efficient and effective use of resources while maximizing participation and customer satisfaction.

- Assist in the strategic planning process for the operation and department; assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies, procedures, standards, goals, objectives, budget, and marketing / public relations activities;
- participate in departmental and campus-wide special project activities. Assist with the responsibility for income and expenses;
recommend, revise and implement changes as necessary to make the most efficient and effective use of resources to meet budget for fiscal year ending June 30th.
