Overview
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers are responsible for America's border security at ports of entry, safeguarding our country and communities from terrorism, illegal activity, narcotics and human trafficking.
Typical Assignments
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture law and regulations;
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel;
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances;
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States; and
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
Basic Eligibility
Eligible applicants must :
- Have one year of full-time work experience that that demonstrates the ability to make rapid, accurate judgments and decisions with respect to the application of the regulations, instructions, and procedures for importing and exporting merchandise, or enforcement and administration of laws relating to the right of persons to enter, reside in, or depart the U.
- S; or two full years of graduate level education in a field of study related to law enforcement (or will receive within 9 months from closing date of job announcement);
or a combination of work experience and graduate level education completed in a field of study related to law enforcement
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Have a valid driver's license
- Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans’ preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position)
- Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years ()
- Be eligible to carry a firearm
- Be willing to travel
