What You Can Expect

The Director of Pre-Construction is a critical role within ENGIE’s Engineering and Delivery (E&D) team, focusing on the contracting of grid-scale renewables projects, including Onshore Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS).

ENGIE seeks a highly experienced and motivated Director with passion for renewable energy to join the E&D division of the team.

The Director of Pre-Construction will report to the Head of Strategic Supply and Optimization whilst also working closely with multiple parts of the overall E&D division and wider ENGIE business.

The position will have primary focus on both the preparation and management of contract bidding, and associated pre-construction phase activities, while also directing Contract negotiations and making recommendation to the ENGIE Leadership team for contract awards.

Following successful placement of contracts, the Director of Preconstruction will take accountability for the handover and effective legacy support to the Director of Delivery ensuring ultimately the delivery of safe, timely, cost effective and class leading renewable energy projects.

Successful execution of this position requires clear and consistent coordination of multiple project stakeholders including developers, contractors, vendors, owners, and financing partners.

The Director of Pre-Construction must have exceptional project management skills and possess the ability to successfully lead a project team through challenging problems.

The Director of Pre-Construction will also manage a team of six direct reports.

  • Project management services, coordination, and support for large and complex wind, solar, and storage projects during the pre-construction phase of the project
  • Liaise with project development teams to support and coordinate earlier project engagement and coordination efforts to support ease of transition into delivery phase
  • Support and provide delivery expertise and oversight around engineering design and permitting efforts
  • Direct, control and manage adequate resourcing plans to support the delivery of all preconstruction deliveries for renewable energy projects as required
  • Direct and manage request for proposal (RFP) process for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services
  • Direct and manage commercial aspects of all project related contract negotiations
  • Provide direction and coordination for pre-construction activities including site studies, surveys, preliminary engineering, and estimating
  • Support and direct efforts to resolve a range of technical / specialist issues during bid phase
  • Actively identify and manage critical path issues and risks to remove and minimize project impacts
  • Provide direction and primary inputs for project capital expenditure compilation and subsequent approval processes to secure budget for Project Delivery scope
  • Provide critical liaison for internal stakeholders including development, engineering, interconnection, and power marketing teams with Capex input requests
  • Coordinate and manage key project stakeholders including Balance of Plant (BOP), Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor
  • Support and provide critical feedback for major equipment (modules, wind turbines, batteries, and substation) procurement processes
  • Participate in the negotiation of key project contracts including Major Equipment Supply Agreements and BOP-EPC Agreement
  • Ensure project schedules and costs are managed and tracking to plan
  • Continually assess project risk and maintain project Risk Register during preconstruction phase
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all parties involved in the development and approval of the project
  • Seek to be accountable for a portfolio of projects as the team grows
  • Develop and / or maintain department guides, standards, and processes to support departments efforts

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related science field where you have equivalent combination of technical training
  • Minimum 10 years of project management and procurement in utility scale renewable energy and / or heavy construction experience
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or equivalent
  • Experience with various project & construction management software tools, e.g., Procore
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and directing teams across various works streams and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Advanced Microsoft Software Applications skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)
  • Proven track record of leading and managing projects with results that meet all stakeholder goals
  • Critical thinker with ability to problem solve and achieve results by setting priorities and staying organized
  • Results oriented leader with the ability to work independently within a large matrixed organization while effectively interfacing with the various cross-functional employee groups
  • Experience of project bidding and contracting
  • Working knowledge of OSHA
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all interfaces, technical specification and report writing, and presentation skills
  • Excellent personal organization and time management skills with a tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Commitment to the advancement of renewable energy solutions across North America

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically / internationally up to 33% of the time
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license / clean driving record, for the use of use of hire cars when traveling, to drive to site locations and meetings
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Salary Range : $128,400 $196,765 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
