Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Performs a variety of MRI procedures to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. Ensures completion of all work assignments prior to end of shift to assist with reduced length of stay initiatives.
  • Verifies patient identity and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.

Records pertinent data on requisition at all times.

Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper radiation safety practices and proper positioning devices.

Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.

Inserts, maintains, and discontinues Heparin lock or IV access devices as required by patient condition. Administers IV contrast media through said devices.

Performs phlebotomy at time of procedure to reduce patient pain and inconvenience.

  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy and abnormal pathology, presents completed examination to a radiologist via, Teleradiology and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient immediately following the procedure.
  • Processes all patients through the Meditech system before end of shift to ensure proper documentation and billing information.
  • Recommends, participates and assists in the implementation of expense control initiatives.
  • Takes an active role in the education of students assigned to this individual.
  • Properly marks and identifies all MRI scans. Transfers MRI images from tape to disk laser printer.
  • Reports all safety hazards and / or MRI equipment malfunctions that could harm patients, visitors or other hospital employees to appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains proper stocking and cleanliness of MRI rooms.
  • Participates in the MRI Section On-Call schedule
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians and hospital visitors.
  • As identified in the department / unit specific competency plan, demonstrates :
  • The technical competence necessary to provide quality care to age specific population.
  • The ability to assess the developmental needs of age specific population.
  • The ability to use equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor / manager.
  • Demonstrates support and compliance with the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus' mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives and policies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION : Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology School. Registered by the ARRT and licensed by the state of Maryland.

EXPERIENCE : Up to one (I) year radiographic and one (1) month MRI experience following graduation from an approved school.

CONTAMRIS : Hospital personnel, physicians, patients, family members, and visitors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Moving patients, lifting cassettes, pushing portable equipment, wearing lead aprons and standing / walking the majority of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS : Well lit and ventilated.

HAZARDS : Possible exposure to ionizing radiation.
