Summary :
Responsible for performing all the duties of aphlebotomist including specimen collection, specimen receiving, andspecimen referrals.
CHRISTUS SantaRosa Hospital - Medical Center (CSRH-MC), located in the SouthTexas Medical Center, provides a high-level of care throughcompassionate hands, experience physicians, and advancedtechnology, including the da Vinci Surgical Robot System and theMako™ Robotic-Arm Assisted System.
Services at the 178- bedfacility include Acute Care of the Elderly Unit, cardiology,diabetes care, emergency care, general surgery, kidneytransplantation at the CHRISTUS Transplant Institute, orthopedics,outpatient rehabilitation and aquatic therapy, Senior BehavioralHealth Center, urology, and the Wound Care and HyperbaricCenter.
Responsibilities :

- Assures quality of work performed by all associates. Coordinatesservices to customers in a manner that provides customersatisfaction and cost-efficient operations.
- Assurescompliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, andother regulatory standards, including privacy and security ofhealth information (PHI).
- Maintains collectiontray / container / bag and working area in a neat and sanitarycondition & restocks as necessary.
- Responsiblefor procurement of supplies for the department in cooperation withthe team lead.
- Performs all duties of a phlebotomist;specimen collection, specimen receiving, specimen send-outs.
- Prepares specimens for referral to outside labs, includingordering of misc. and misc. referred testing, packaging ofspecimens, calling of cab, referral paperwork, and the mailsystem
- Performs all patient specimen collectionsincluding, but not limited to, venipuncture, capillary collection,urine drug screen collection, skin tests, and blood, throat, and NPcultures.
- Ensures that specimen requirements are metat the time of collection and maintain specimen integrity
- Demonstrates good communication skills by competentlyinteracting with customers, patients, family members, nurses,physicians, clients, and co-workers.
- Operates thelaboratory computer system to document specimen information,patient registration, order entry, collection lists, and otherassigned tasks.
- Performs other related duties asassigned (stand-by / on-call, inventory, special projects,cross-training, etc.).
- Completes associateperformance evaluations and annual competency assessments in atimely manner.
Requirements : A.Education / Skills
A.Education / Skills
- HighSchool diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of a Phlebotomy; Medical Laboratory; or MedicalAssistant program that includes phlebotomypreferred.
- Familiar with medical terminology;computer data entry; organizationalskills.
B. Experience
One year phlebotomyexperience preferred.
C. Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications
Certification from National Accredited ProgramPreferred.
