Position Summary
Work with the Engineering staff to support Substation Field Engineering (SFE) projects, both capital and maintenance. The SFE team initiates smaller fast track substation equipment replacement projects in response to failures, bad test results, and any other emerging issues at substations.
The intern will work as an entry-level engineer supporting the team lead or in initiating these projects, ensuring that the project is progressing as required, ordering materials, and ensuring drawing work is progressing accordingly.
Through practical field experience and mentoring, the successful candidate will gain significant professional confidence in substation engineering, equipment, and people skills.
This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer and 10-20 hrs.

This includes coordination and attendance at the Scoping Site Visit, creating project estimates, creating Scope of Work Documents (SOW) using the SFE SOW template, transmitting the scope of work document, and communicating the status of the project to stakeholders, ordering major materials, ensuring necessary resources are assigned to execute the project, reviewing and approving construction drawings, and supporting the crew during construction.
This also includes schedule coordination with Project controls, outage coordination, and follow-through project progress from creation to completion using SFE project classifications : Emergency project, Fast tracking project, and Planned project.
This candidate will support projects to replace multiple equipment that the Substation Field Engineering (SFE) group has identified as at the end of their life, pending failure, or deemed failed due to investigation or test results at different substations in the NSPM area.
This program includes, but is not limited to, the replacement of transformers, feeder breakers, circuit switchers, switches, CCVTs, PTs, transformer bushings, arresters, station controls, substation batteries, fences, and yard works.
Minimum Requirements :
Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering program.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
Must be self-motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work well with other engineers and field techs preferred.
Sophomore or Junior status with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
