About the Department

The Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL , which includes intensive English and credit-bearing ESL programs, offers BA, MA, and Ph.

D. applied linguistics programs and undergraduate and graduate certificates in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

The department has an international reputation in research, scholarly achievement, and teaching applied linguistics and ESL for a diverse student body.

Faculty members engage in multidisciplinary research and interdisciplinary collaborations within the university, Atlanta community, and internationally.

Additionally, faculty members have a history of external funding from the National Science Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and other private agencies and organizations.

Position Description

The Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL in the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University invites applications for a full-time, 10-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall of 2025.

This is a full-time academic year position.

The faculty member will : * Develop, pursue, and maintain an active research agenda* Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in applied linguistics (2- 2 teaching load)* Mentor and direct undergraduate and graduate student research* Contribute to department, college, university, and professional service

Required Experience

Required Education

An earned Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the start of the position.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

Expertise in psycholinguistics and related areas, such as second language studies, multilingualism, and experimental / quantitative research methods

Established or potential for collaboration across the department, college, and university

Scholarship positioned to address the needs and challenges of urban communities, consistent with the mission of the university.

Experience in classroom teaching

An ongoing record of scholarly work commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor

Demonstrated line of research with a strong potential for external funding

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
