Position Summary :
A Glimpse of Africa (AGOA) is a vibrant organization committed to uniting communities and fostering a
sense of belonging, appreciation, and positive impact among African communities and all New
Americans in West Michigan. We are seeking a dedicated and professional Program Coordinator to lead
the coordination and execution of all AGOA programs, ensuring the highest levels of efficiency, impact,
and positive outcomes. Our programs address cultural, systemic, and language barriers by promoting
equitable access to healthcare services and resources, civic education, social support, cultural awareness,
and economic empowerment.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, community-oriented leader with strong program management
skills. The candidate will demonstrate a high level of people management, program delivery, quality
control, and evaluation, to ensure all programs align with AGOA's mission and meet community needs.
Key Responsibilities :
Coordinate and lead AGOA's programs, including :
Mental Health Fair and Conversations
Women, Men, and Youth Sessions
Civic Engagement Initiatives / Legal clinics
Entrepreneur Empowerment Programs
Ready by Five and Maternal Care
Ensure programs address cultural, systemic, and language barriers while providing equitable
access to healthcare, civic education, cultural awareness, and economic empowerment.
Community Organizing : Work with community members to build trust, identify issues, develop
strategies, and create a unified voice for positive social change. Build relationships, mobilize
resources, and advocate for the community's needs.
Community Outreach : Inform and engage community members through workshops, and health
and social campaigns Manage daily program operations, outreach, and implementation.
Supervise the Community Health Navigators, interns, and consultants working on specific
projects.
Stay informed and engaged in all AGOA events including the annual festival, as well as all other
community resources, and opportunities.
Position Responsibilities :
Program Coordination & Supervision
Develop and oversee mental health, wellness, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement
programs and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes that meet the
objectives of the organization and community needs.
Supervises Community Health Navigators and relevant contractors and interns to ensure
service delivery and quality standards are maintained in line with the organization's
mission.
Planned, organized, and facilitated various sessions like support groups, counseling
sessions, and wellness workshops. This position can also delegate this responsibility to
navigators and contractors.
Collaborate with field professionals to design evidence-based programs in each key area.
Conduct needs assessments and surveys to understand specific mental and other health
needs in the target community.
Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, using feedback for continuous
improvements.
Works directly with the leadership team to ensure that program goals are being met,
direct staff and volunteers are properly trained and supported, and that all programming
meets quality standards.
Work closely with the CEO to prepare, create, and manage the program budgets
Community Engagement
Cultivate strong relationships with community members and stakeholders to ensure the
programs are relevant and valuable. Promotes events and ensures participation in
programs.
Sustain existing relationships with health systems and community partners to ensure
sufficient resources, and equitable access to services.
Collaborate with local schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to
expand program reach.
Connect, build, and sustain relationships with program sponsors and funders, through
meetings, reporting program and grant outcomes.
Work with the direct staff and the social media team to raise awareness of the
organization's mental health and overall wellness initiatives.
Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including
funders.
Program Grants and Partnerships
Collaborate with the CEO and the fund development team to identify and communicate
to funders, and sponsors on the program expenses and funds allocation
Collaborate on creating a program budget to ensure financial stability for all program
activities
Work closely with the leadership, to connect with the program partners, including setting
up in-personal meetings to build and nurture partner relationships
Program Evaluation and Data Analysis
Collaborate to implement systems for measuring and evaluating the impact of programs.
Use performance data for decision-making to drive continual improvement and maximize
the efficacy of AGOA's offerings.
Conduct program design, development, measurement, and implementation of programs
that are aligned with organizational goals.
Develop and manage comprehensive data tracking systems to assess the impact of each
program.
Monitor and report on program results for transparency and accountability.
Use data insights to guide program development, improvement, and strategic
decision-making.
Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of African culture, be passionate about
promoting community welfare, and have experience in program management, data analysis, and
community-oriented work. Desired qualifications include but not limited to :
Bachelor's degree in project management, human services or related field or equivalent
employment / work experience. A combination of previous work experience and lived
experience will be considered in place of academic credentials.
Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working
with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems.
Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in
measurable successes and program growth.
Deep understanding of issues facing immigrants, refugees, and g people in crisis, and
poverty with a commitment and desire to assist individuals and families achieve stability,
health, wholeness, and independence.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to interact
positively with individuals, colleagues, and collateral agencies.
At least two years of experience in customer services and staff management. Experience
working with low-income and diverse populations is preferred.
Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer
group.
