Paramedic Transport - PRN - Evenings

At Houston Methodist the Paramedic Transportposition is responsible for providing appropriate outofhospitaladvanced and basic life support care and transportation of patientsin accordance with local state national and Houston Methodistsstandards of care.

This position is responsible for assisting inthe delivery of patient care and services to diverse patientpopulation and their families under direction of the MedicalDirector.

The Paramedic Transport position demonstrates knowledgeand skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry outdelegated tasks records data established by policy and procedurereporting observations and patient problems to the Medical Directorand / or Supervisor.

PEOPLEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Providesa safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient careinformation to the receiving personnel at the destination.

Collaborates with all members of the interprofessional team byactively communicating and reporting pertinent patient careinformation in a clear and timelymanner.

Interacts withpeers staff and physicians in a supportive and respectful mannerresponding willingly and positively to colleagues needs forassistance and partnership.

Serves as a role model using criticalthinking in several capacities; mentors new Paramedics and(Emergency Medical Technician) EMT personnel in transportprocedures role and readiness and as team leader in patientdecontaminationoperations.

Providescontributions towards improvement of department scores forturnover / retention / employee satisfaction i.e. peertopeeraccountability.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Rolemodels patient and familycentered care standards and providesdirect patient care under the direction of a physician.

Documentswhere applicable care administered treatments and procedures asdetermined by skills training and validation in accordance withestablished policies andprocedures.

Conducts acareful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms ofillness / injury and assists other medical personnel as necessary.

Provides care in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversityand inclusionprinciples.

• Providescareful handling of the patient to and from the ambulance.Administers prompt and efficient basic and advanced life supportcare within the limits of licensure or certification and inaccordance with approved protocols prior to and duringtransport.
• Contributestowards improving department scores for patient satisfactionthrough peertopeer accountability i.e. shifthandoff / report.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Documents allaspects of patient condition and treatment on patient care records.Obtains and records nonmedical patient information as required.

Completes other patient documentation and forms as required.Provides for the privacy of patients and families keeping thesafety of the patient inmind.

Conducts regularambulance inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipmentfor which the paramedic is responsible is present clean and inproper working order.

Upon completion of transport responsible forall assigned duties which will place the ambulance and equipmentback inservice.

• Identifiescorrective action and improvement activities impacting quality andsafety targets on the unitbased scorecard reporting near misses andcollaborating with the interprofessionalteam.
• Operates / drivesthe ambulance in a safe and efficient manner following HoustonMethodist Hospital policy and procedure driving guidelines toensure safety or condition of the occupants are notcompromised.

FINANCEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Usesresources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Assists withpatient and staffing needs (floats) across the service line orhospital as competencies allow.

Selfmotivated to independentlymanage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks minimizingincidental overtime. Role models effective time management to meetthe overall demands of theunit.

Documents andreports all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments(electronic or mechanical) to management. Maintains an orderlyenvironment that facilitates access to supplies equipment andresourceinformation.

EDUCATION

HighSchool diploma or equivalent education (examples include : GEDverification of homeschool equivalency partial or full completionof postsecondary education etc.)

WORKEXPERIENCE

• Three years ofambulance / transport experience functioning as the primary attendantclinically caring for patients in a prehospital setting such as a911 EMS System or a busy private ambulanceservice.
• One year hospitalexperiencepreferred

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• DLDriver License State Licensure AND
• EMTP Emergency MedicalTechnicianParamedic State Licensure OR
• Paramedic NationalRegistry of Paramedics (NREMT) AND
• BLS Basic Life Support(AHA) AND
• ACLS AdvancedCardiac Life Support (AHA) AND
• PALS Pediatric AdvancedLife Support (AHA) within 3 months AND
• NVCRISIS NonviolentCrisis Intervention (CPI) within 6 months

KNOWLEDGE SKILLSAND ABILITIES
