The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining honing machines to produce precision parts according to specifications.
The Honing Machinist will work with various metals and materials, ensuring high quality and adherence to tight tolerances.
Responsibilities- Set up and prepare honing machines according to job specifications and blueprints.- Load parts into the machine and adjust machine controls to ensure proper operation.
- Monitor machine operation and adjust as necessary to maintain quality and productivity.- Select and mount honing tools, stones, and abrasives based on material and finish requirements.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.- Perform routine maintenance on honing machines and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform minor repairs as needed.- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all company safety guidelines and procedures.
- Document production and quality data accurately and timely.- Collaborate with foreman, quality control, and other team members to resolve issues and improve processes.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship in machining or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Honing Machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment recommended.- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tools, and equipment.- Ability to set up and operate honing machines independently.
- Experience with different types of honing machines and tools (, vertical, horizontal, manual, CNC).- Solid understanding of metals, materials, and their machining characteristics.
- Attention to detail and precision in workmanship.- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Good communication skills, abilities to work effectively, independently and in a team environment.- Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment.
Preferred Skills- Certification in machining or related field.- Familiarity with CNC programming and operation.- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
Working Conditions- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise.- May be required to stand for long periods and work with hands and arms extended over the machine.
- Shop is not climate controlled and daily temperatures may vary.
