Medical Assistant - Float

Description

The Specialty Medical Assistant Float works as part of a health care team within a procedural specialty area by assisting the physician in providing high quality patient care in a professional, efficient and safe manner.

The Medical Assistant will also provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities :

OFFICE VISITS :

• Introduces self to patient while escorting patient into exam room
• Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height, as needed
• Assist patient and physician throughout the visit
• Collects, labels and processes specimens accurately
• Maintains clean patient exam rooms
• Assemble and use equipment appropriate to specific medical practice
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and dispose of contaminated supplies, as needed
• Communicates delays effectively when necessary

MISCELLANEOUS :

• Provides clerical support to patients such as but not limited to making appointments, booking procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations and answering telephones
• Manages medical inventory and supply ordering based on par levels

CHARTING :

• Enters patient information into the computer accurately
• Manages the physician’s desktop accurately and in a timely and efficient manner

ADVANCED SKILLS :

• Schedules procedures
• Assist with cervical and epidural injections
• Manages c-arm during procedures
• Assists with radiofrequency procedures
• Manages drug screenings
• Initiates patient contracts for compliance

Education / Certifications / Licenses :

• High school diploma
• MA certificate or equivalent experience

Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

• Medical office experience preferred
• Must be able to multitask in a high volume, fast-paced environment
• Phlebotomy certification and experience is a plus
• Demonstrates positive attitude and excellent customer service skills
• Strong communication skills
